IWIA Receives Superintendent's Distinguished Achievement Award!
Congratulations Imagine Wesley! On September 29th, State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox announced the winners of the 2nd annual Superintendent's Distinguished Achievement Awards. These awards honor schools for high achievement and the greatest improvement on state curriculum tests.

Our school received an award for Improvement in English-Language Arts on the CRCT for 6th grade! IWIA was one of the schools that had the greatest improvement in the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards in English-Language Arts. 91% of our 6th graders met or exceeded the standards for English Language Arts!

A big THANK YOU for the hard work put in by our teachers, students, families, and school community.

This Week's Link: Guys Read!
If you are a parent of a boy be sure to check out:  www.guysread.com.

Find the "Book of the Month," the "Newest Book on the Pile," and the "Let's Get to the Books" for recommendations by genre and age level.

Following is an excerpt from the Guys Read home page that gives an overview of what the site is about...

"Welcome to Guys Read, a web-based literacy program for boys.  Our mission is to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers.

Research shows that boys are having trouble reading, and that boys are getting worse at reading. No one is quite sure why. Some of the reasons are biological.  Some of the reasons are sociological. But the good news is that research also shows that boys will read - if they are given reading that interests them.

So the biggest part of this site is the collection of book titles below. These are books that guys have told us they like. Our idea is to help guys become readers by helping them find texts they want to read. Get in there and start looking around. There is a little something for everyone.

And please help guys out by recommending more of your guy-favorites."

Learn more interesting facts about boys and reading as well as the mission of Guys Read. More...
