Gabby A KW Kitty!
|
|
Gabby is a one-year old female domestic shorthair who is active and fun-loving. She was a patient young Mom who recently weaned her gorgeous kitten who has since been adopted. She's very peaceful, observant, and loving. It's now her time to have a home that will mother her. Won't you be her mother (or father)? For more information on adopting Gabby or any other great animal at the FKSPCA, please call us at 305-294-4857, or visit us at our location at 5230 College Road on Stock Island.
More kind hearts at Archeo on upper Duval Street, longtime supporters of the FKSPCA, announced the winner of their recent pet photo contest, which came with a magnificent $1,000 for the winner to donate to the animal shelter of their choice. Winners Linda and Julie, owners of Coconut and Sunny, not only wanted their prize to go to the animals at the FKSPCA but added another $1,000. FKSPCA president, Jane Dawkins, picked up the checks yesterday and gave a big thank-you to Wendy Meyer of Archeo for setting up the contest and for Archeo's generosity. Linda and Julie came along with daughter Annie, and their two lolloping labs, Sunny and Coconut. Please click here to see all the entries.
Way to go Archeo!

Charlie --An Oregon Doggie!
| My name is Charlie, and Im looking for a warm lap to lie on. It takes me a little time to trust new people in new places, but give me a few minutes and Ill be your best friend. Thats probably how I will greet most new people, but Ive heard its a somewhat endearing trait. Youll have to let me know what you think about it. I really do enjoy getting out and about for daily bouts of exercise and play, and a Basic Manners class, like those offered here at OHS, would help further boost my confidence in new situations. I need to find a home without cats and with children old enough to respect my shy nature, if any. I may also prefer to be the only dog, but let me meet your other canine roommate and we'll see. Ive come here with the hope of finding my forever home, and you seem like just the type of person I want to spend forever with. How about we visit for a while and see if were a match like I think we might be? The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip ID, collar and OHS I.D. tag, initial vaccines, one month pet insurance, courtesy veterinarian exam, and plenty of post adoption support!

G.I. Trixie
| Our client, Heidi, sent this picture of Trixie. Don't know who dug the hole for Trixie to play in, but something tells me Trixie did have a helping paw in it. Amazing too that the helmet fits so well. And, maybe a little water and grass fertilizer would help that rather, um, dry lawn. Just sayin'! Hmm...Good Guard doggie!
Okay, a-left, a-left, a-left, right, left! Woof! | |

Hi Everyone!
Well, I hope it's a pretty day wherever you are! It's beautiful here in Portland, Oregon, but chilly-wa-wa-wa-willy. Oh, yeah, and it's Friday the 13th! I personally love Friday the 13th. On that day, about 6 years ago, I had a very large, nasty, painful, garbonzo-bean-sized kidney stone removed from the inside of me that I named Phil. Fisherman's Hospital in Marathon, where I had it done, was totally empty. Not a single patient, except me, was on the whole floor that day. My room was very private and all the nurses and even the grateful CFO for the hospital came down and patted my hand and told me I was gonna be all right. SO, I'll always love Friday the 13th. But, back to the present, click here to get in the mood for your Friday, and oh, yeah, it's Fresh Caught Friday! Yay!
Okay, remember last week was 2012 Global No Pants Day Party in Portland. (These people here will drop trow for any reason at all. Weird, yes. Wonderful, yes.) Anyway, it was well attended and a party ensued in Downtown Portland. Ted found a video you can check out to see what the heck goes on at these things. Now, I do have a small confession. I've been known to do silly things, and there is an old polaroid that used to have me and my black underwear (posterior aspect) posted at a particularly famous martini bar wall on Duval Street--okay, Virgilio's already! Anyway, if anyone can send me a .jpeg of that particular polaroid, I'll give you a $24 gift certificate! Oh, and for goodnesssakes, PLEASE take the polaroid down and dispose of properly in the circular file...for me! It's embarrassing enough already!
And, now for more news of treasure and challenges...da, da, da (imposing sound like in a soap opera)...As the Sunken Treasure Turns...news flash: Remember the guy, who says he found emeralds worth about $500 million--yes, $500 Million--well apparently Mel Fisher's son is legally challenging the claim. He says the gems are from the Nuestra Senora de Atocha, which sank in that famed hurricane off Key West in 1622, and of which his father and family FOUND ALREADY! Okay, here's the rub--since none of the stones were listed on manifests of the Atocha or another ship, the Santa Margarita, which Fisher has claimed already, the other guy, says they're his! Plus he hasn't found any remnants of a ship on his site. I would try not to find ship remnants from another ship on my site also! So, there you have it. Plus, no coordinates for the new treasure have been exactly given out yet, so...you get the picture. Plus, there's a thing called a "scatter trail" to think about, from the Atocha, etc. These treasures could stretch for miles, depending on currents, etc. Fascinating stuff. So, stay tuned to find out more. Oh, I'm keeping my eye on this one!
And, now, back to Portland, and Walter the very large cat. Walter was rescued from an elderly person who couldn't take care of him anymore. Walter is 28 pounds. The largest cat the Oregon Human Society has ever had. A towel was wrapped around his belly to help lift him up to walk. Not pretty. But, he's adorable! Strangely, he looks like my Mr. Lucky! Anyway, he's lost weight since this video, around 3 pounds. Ted found this little news video article on Walter. People stood in line to adopt Walter this past week. He's found a loving new home on a goat ranch (yes, it's Oregon folks!), and he's on a very special diet. He's gonna be fine. Whew! Click here to check out Walter the Cat.
Finally, Ted put together this slide show/video of our life over the past couple of months. Hope you like it!
Until next week, I continue to stress the point of keeping your pants on--you never know where those polaroids are gonna pop up, and stay loose and let life flow. xomo, Ted and the furry children.
