TECO Finalizes Acquisition of SBA Assets
TECO is pleased to announce that it has finalized the agreement to acquire the assets of the Structural Board Association (SBA). First announced in an SBA Press Release in April that TECO and SBA had signed a letter of intent and would formalize an agreement, TECO Chairman & CEO Steve Winistorfer and SBA President & CEO Mark Angelini worked out the details of the purchase and signed the Memorandum of Agreement, which became effective August 15th. TECO and SBA, along with current SBA members, have been cooperating to determine which SBA activities and services TECO will continue in 2009.

TECO Becomes CARB Approved
TECO was formally approved as a recognized Third-Party Certifier by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), effective July 18. Phase I formaldehyde emission requirements of the Airborne Toxic Control Measure go into effect on January 1, 2009. The rule regulates emission from raw panels (hardwood plywood, particleboard, and MDF) sold directly into California or used to make goods that are sold in California, but also affects importers, fabricators, distributors and retailers.
Contact Steve Verhey, PhD, TECO's Technical Manager, at (608) 837-2790 or email at steve.verhey@tecotested.com if you have questions about how CARB intends to enforce the regulation or to learn how TECO can help your company meet the pending CARB requirements.

TECO Staff Participate in AF&PA AWC Technical Week
TECO staff participated in the annual technical meetings of the AF&PA American Wood Council held in Leesburg, VA, the week of July 21. AWC is the solid-wood arm of the American Forest & Paper Association, and oversees and maintains publication of the National Design Specification for Wood Construction, among other things. A collection of wood industry and construction experts from around the country, including TECO, discussed the NDS and other codes and standards affecting wood products used in construction. Subcommittees on Structural Design and Fire convened during the meetings. Call Steve Winistorfer at TECO's Corporate office for a summary of the meetings.
Additionally, an article in the current issue of 'Building Products Digest' explains how AWC's work is helping to expand the use of wood into structures traditionally dominated by steel and concrete.
