'Tis the Season - For Hurricanes
Hurricane Preparedness Week
The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, has a website dedicated to the goal of informing the public about hurricane hazards and providing knowledge that can be used to take action. This information can be used to save lives at work, home, while on the road, or on the water. To help the public prepare for the official hurricane season that runs from June 1 through November 30, May 25-31 has been designated as National Hurricane Preparedness Week.
The forecast team at Colorado State University's Department of Atmospheric Science is forecasting 15 named storms to form in the Atlantic basin this season, eight of which they predict will be hurricane strength. The long-term average is 9.6 named storms per season.

Update on CARB In California
The final rulemaking package of California's Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products was accepted and filed with the Secretary of State on April 18, 2008. Phase I emission requirements of the ATCM go into effect on January 1, 2009. The rule regulates emission from raw panels sold directly into California or used to make goods that are sold in California, but also affects importers, fabricators, distributors and retailers.
TECO will offer CARB-compliant certification services to panel manufacturers in North America, South America, and China. Contact Steve Verhey, TECO's Technical Manager, at (608) 837-2790 if you have questions about how the California Air Resources Board (CARB) is applying the regulation or for information about TECO's CARB certification programs.
