TECO Announces Change of Ownership
Ed Starostovic, TECO's owner for the past 15+ years, and Steve Winistorfer, President, inked a deal transferring voting and management control of the company to Winistorfer, effective July 27. "This is a terrific and exciting opportunity, and I look forward to working with our staff to bring even more value to our clients across the globe" said Winistorfer. With the agreement, Winistorfer becomes Chairman and CEO, while Starostovic remains on the Board as an advisor.

Federal Judge Certifies OSB Class Action Suit; Refuses to Dismiss Case
On August 9, the U.S. District Judge of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania certified two classes of plaintiffs in the OSB Antitrust Litigation case pending before the court. Direct and indirect purchasers of OSB were named as separate classes in a suit that alleges a tacit conspiracy existed between nine OSB manufacturers to control the price of OSB in 2002.

I-Codes Soon to Achieve Nationwide Adoption
According to the ICC, Hawaii became the 49th state, as of July 1, to adopt the International Building Code. When California's adoption takes effect on January 1, 2008, all 50 states will be using the I-Codes.

FPL Multi-Use Laboratory Groundbreaking
August 15th was a significant day for wood-related R&D in the United States, with a number of dignitaries on hand for the groundbreaking ceremonies of the USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory's new 90,000 sq. ft. multi-use laboratory that is slated for completion in early 2010. The new facility will contain state of the art equipment and laboratory for four major research areas: composite sciences, preservation, durability, and engineering mechanics.

NAR Economist: Lessons Learned from Subprime Crises
Lawrence Yun, Senior Economist with the National Association of Realtors, believes that rising delinquency and foreclosure rates, a result of the large number of subprime mortgages issued in the past several years, are big concerns. But problems revealed can be lessons learned. Lenders are already adopting sounder credit-lending standards. Fooled once - shame on Wall Street. Fooled twice - shame on Capitalism. Where money is involved, mistakes do not get repeated.
