End of Idle times

Profile picThe last 12 months have flown by so incredibly fast! As I sit here finally having the opportunity to rest and reflect on what has been an amazing year, it's the inspiring people I've met and worked with that endure in my memory. Thank you to everyone who came to a show, and especially those who kindly took my music into their homes and hearts; you are my reason for travelling this wonderful and winding road.

Speaking of travelling, as a bit of fun, I thought I would map my tour dates for 2011 (see below).

 Amy Vee 2011 tour map

To my amazement, my 2011 shows have taken me nearly 26,000kms around this vast land of ours.

Of course, this wouldn't have been possible without the opportunities I've had to tour with Tim Freedman (read more) and also with The Rock Show (read more).

I'd particularly like to thank all those who shared the stage with me in 2011, including TIM FREEDMANJON ENGLISH and The Rock Show band, GOSSLING, VIKA AND LINDA BULL, Holly ClaytonBrooke Harvey, The Widowbirds, The Timbers, Mike McCarthy, Hannah Sunderland, Renny Field, Jacob Pearson, The McMenamins and Hudson Arc. Special thanks to Gareth Hudson and Tadijana Ilicic, who graciously completed the "Amy Vee Trio" on several occassions on keys/double bass and violin respectively.

I'm especially grateful that 2011 has also allowed me to explore my passion for arts health. Read more below.

And finally, if you haven't yet managed to catch a gig this year, you still have one last chance - I'll be performing a special solo set at The Basement, Sydney on Wednesday 28 December, supporting Tim Freedman in solo mode. Book now as capacity is limited - (02) 9251 2797.

As for next year? You'll have to wait and see ;) I can reveal that there will be a new recording in the works. But that's just between you and me for now.

I wish you all a safe and restful festive season and may the New Year bring you hope and happiness.

Much love,

Tim Freedman & The Idle
Tim Freedman & The Idle at The Metro, Sydney

Our whirlwind tour has come to a close, having played some 18 shows throughout November/December. I'm going to miss the company of Tim, Heath, Zoe, Dave and the awesome crew that made it all happen. Check out some of the tour pics on my Facebook page. If you have some of your own, feel free to post them on my wall. Thanks to everyone who came and shared the experience and especially to those who came early for my solo sets.

rockshowThe Rock Show rolls on
Earlier this year I was invited to join the cast of The Rock Show  - a touring theatre-style production starring Aussie music icon Jon English and a cast of eight young multi-instrumentalists weaving their way through the most influential music of the 60's and 70's.

Amy Vee in The Rock ShowSince that time we've toured theatres throughout metro and regional NSW, QLD and ACT and will be continuing to tour through SA, VIC and WA throughout early 2012, with our final show being staged at the State Theatre in Sydney on February 18.  This has been a truly amazing experience... The show really is a must see. All tour dates and ticketing details are available on the SHOWS section of my website.
artshealthWith music in mind: New management
I'm excited that 2011 has allowed me to further explore my passion for arts and health in a number of ways,  foremost my new relationship with Emerald Violin Arts Health Management and Consultancy. I look forward to working with my manager and friend Emma Cother to find ways to explore the links between music and mental health. Highlights this year have included:
  • The addition of a "CARE" section to my website
  • The inclusion of my song "Heart-Shaped Space" in a national television campaign to promote the Partners in Depression initiative - view the ads here.
  • Performing and presenting at the International Arts Health Conference in Canberra
  • Coordinating two local youth-focussed mental health/arts projects in Newcastle (MindPlay and Youth Rockin' the Black Dog)
  • Being featured on the cover of the HNE Health Matters magazine, available to over 15,500 NSW health staff (read it here)
I look forward to keeping the conversation alive throughout 2012.
See you next year.

Much love and gratitude,

Amy Vee
