  • Lincoln Square Holiday Tree

This holiday season, visit Dante Park (Broadway between 63rd and 64th Streets) and check out our neighborhood holiday tree - a 25' Balsam fir. The tree helped kick off this year's Winter's Eve and was donated by our landscape company, McNulty Outdoors, and skillfully installed by the NYC Parks Department. The decorations, small melamine plates with 23 designs featuring word and picture play, were generously donated by artist Jane Jenni, decorated by the American Folk Art Museum and hung by Illuminations by Arnold, also responsible for lighting up Lincoln Square this holiday season. Visit the Museum's Lincoln Square branch on Columbus Avenue between 65th and 66th Streets where the plates and other gift items are available.

Penalty Relief Program Deadline: December 21

Act now because on December 21, 2009, the NYC Penalty Relief Program for Homeowners and Business Owners will end! The NYC Penalty Relief Program for Homeowners and Business Owners is a three-month program approved by Mayor Bloomberg and the City Council that allows businesses and homeowners to resolve certain Environmental Control Board violations that are "in default" and for which a hearing date was scheduled before May 1, 2009.

Those who apply are able to resolve their violations by paying the base fine; additional penalties, late fees and/or interest will be waived. If a violation is related to a correctible condition, known as a compliance violation, applicants must correct the condition before they apply to the program.

For detailed instructions on how to apply for this waiver please review this video clip or click here.

    David Rubenstein Atrium Debuts Tomorrow!

Beginning December 17, the David Rubenstein Atrium, a brand new public visitors' and Lincoln Center ticketing facility on Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets, opens daily with an array of services for local residents, the general public, and the thousands of people who visit Lincoln Center and the surrounding community every day.

Beginning January 7, patrons will be able to get day-of discount tickets at the Zucker Box Office located in the Atrium. In the meantime, visit the Atrium for Target Free Thursdays - free public performances every Thursday night at 8:30pm.

Gene Simmons Signs KISS Kompendium at Borders

On Thursday, December 17 at 12:30pm, Borders on the second floor of Time Warner Center will host KISS' legendary frontman, Gene Simmons, as he signs KISS Kompendium - an eye- popping compilation of the previously out-of-print Stan Lee Marvel comic book adventures of the legendary heavy metal band, as well as the famed Psycho Circus and Dark Horse editions and KISS's own KISStory.

The book features artwork by Todd McFarlane and other acclaimed graphic artists. Fully authorized by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, KISS Kompendium coincides with the release of the latest album and includes candid, never before seen photos from the recent KISS tour and from the band members' personal archives. Please note: Simmons will sign copies of KISS Kompendium purchased at Borders only.

    Bikes in Buildings

The Bicycle Access to Office Buildings Law (Local Law 52), which aims to increase bicycle commuting by helping cyclists gain access to secure parking at their office buildings during the workday, went into effect on December 11. The Departments of Transportation (DOT) and Buildings will jointly oversee the Bikes in Buildings Program and overall compliance with the law, which is expected to lead to an expansion of bike parking at commercial office buildings across the City and encourage continued growth in the number of commuter cyclists on City streets. According to DOT, commuter cycling in New York is accelerating rapidly, with a 26% increase in just the last year alone, and has more than doubled since 2005. It is our understanding that this law only applies to commercial office buildings with at least one freight elevator and does not apply to residential buildings.

Additional details of the program are available online at www.nyc.gov/bikesinbuildings.

    Lincoln Center: Celebrating 50 Years

Lincoln Center: Celebrating 50 Years is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on the evolution and influence of America's first performing arts center. This exhibit, currently on view at The Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery in The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza, will close January 16, 2010. Don't miss it!

Curated by Thomas Mellins, co-author of the book New York 1960, the exhibition features an extensive collection of some 400 historic and contemporary objects including photographs, ephemera, correspondence, costumes, set pieces, props and video recordings. Highlights include Leonard Bernstein's concert tuxedo, a signed copy of John Adams' score On the Transmigration of Souls, the feathered and sequined gown Beverly Sills wore at her farewell gala performance, a poster designed by Andy Warhol for the fifth New York Film Festival in 1967, and the iconic yellow dress from Lincoln Center Theater's Tony award-winning production, Contact.

    Carole Eisner on Broadway Extended

We are pleased to announce that the Carole Eisner public art exhibition has been extended through February 25, 2010. These whimsical sculptures have been organized by Susan Eley Fine Art, an art gallery located on the Upper West Side and the artist Carole Eisner.

We are delighted that we were able to facilitate the location of two sculptures within the Lincoln Square BID: "Dali's Moustache" is located at 67th Street across from the new Apple Store and Gracious Home, and "Walter" is on the northern tip of Dante Park at Broadway and 64th Street. Be sure to take the self guided cell phone tour and stroll up Broadway to see all nine sculptures.

Thank you for another great year!

This was our 10th anniversary of Winter's Eve and we couldn't have pulled off this spectacular celebration without the support of our sponsors, businesses and community partners. Thank you for another great year!
