Greetings!
Holiday Gift Idea
What could be better than a gift that you don't have to try on, buy batteries for, pretend to like or have to wait in line to buy! Where can I find a guaranteed winner of a gift like that, you ask? Well, let me tell you that not only can I tell you about one winning gift but this gift is actually three in one! A membership to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) not only gets you all the benefits of the National Association but it also gets you all of the benefits of the Pennsylvania Association and your local area association! But how can this be? Why would we give away three memberships for the price of one? It isn't a sales gimmick, not a onetime only offer, not only valid in certain zip codes or days of the week; but instead, it is how we have always done business. We want our members to be a part of the national movement and have access to the larger association resources while at the same time being connected more directly with meetings, activities, events and early learning initiatives happening across their state and in their local communities. In Pennsylvania we have one state affiliate and 13 local affiliate chapters of NAEYC, all comprised of professionals who care about and are working on behalf of the young children in our state. Membership benefits will help you (or someone you are surprising with this gift) improve your teaching and learning, raise the quality of early childhood education programs, promote the early childhood profession and connect you with other professionals who may live or work down the street or across the country! The resources you gain from another individual's professional expertise to formal publications are useful in and out of any classroom. But the best part of membership is a feeling of being a part of a community of professionals dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children and committed to serving and acting on behalf of their needs and rights. I hope you will seriously consider joining our organization, renewing your membership or buying one as a gift for a professional you know that works with young children. We want to help you make the biggest difference!

PennAEYC News
"I am proud to have been in the company of many inspiring professionals at an ECE Fellowship meeting when I first heard about the budget. I was unsure at first what to expect of the fellowship program but within an hour of the start of the meeting I knew that this was something that I wanted to be a part of and knew that this was a journey that I was ready to undertake with the people sitting around me."
"it has been almost 1 month since my first meeting in philadelphia with an amazing group of professionals. in typical fashion, we laughed, we cried, we got loud...we all expressed our passion for children and their future and i am blessed to be a part of it. looking forward to the challenges and blessings of working with such a dynamic group." |

Early Childhood News
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has a new website. The state Department of Education announced Monday that it has launched a new departmental website that is "easier to use." "This dynamic new website will make it easier for Pennsylvanians and others to access the broad array of services and information the department has available," Education Secretary Gerald L. Zahorchak said in a press release. "Visitors to the site will be able to find what they need based on content type or based on their role in public education, as a student, parent, educator or taxpayer."

Early Lessons - Podcast about the Perry Preschool Project
The Perry Preschool Project was the first major study to examine the impact of a high-quality preschool program on the lives of African American children who were born in poverty. A new podcast on American RadioWorks, entitled Early Lessons by Emily Hanford, discusses the experiences of people directly involved in the project. It includes interviews with teachers who were at the school and personal descriptions of what the experience was like. For more information and to access the podcast, go to the website for American RadioWorks.
