Cari Amici Miei,
May is finally here and with it a bigger array of fruits and vegetables. Well, that was the case in the past. This year with the rains and extreme weather all over the United States who knows! I'm hoping for the best.
Let me take this occasion to wish a happy Mother's Day to all of you moms out there, including my beloved wife Monika! Your patience and dedication to us children and husbands is both admirable and inspiring. We will be open from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 8th just in case you want to celebrate Mother's Day Italian Stye at Sotto Sopra.
Speaking of mothers, my wife and baby will be traveling to Poland for the next two months while I will be here all alone to run the business. Make sure you come keep me company, I will be extremely lonely.
I will be joining them in Italy at the end of June for one month, where we will take a culinary tour through Puglia.
In a separate note, I have received numerous compliments in the last month about the noticeable improvement in service. I'm very happy that you are happy and my goal to be in the top 5 service oriented restaurants in the city is well on target.
On the food front, the reviews on OpenTable.com speak for themselves. I'm really dedicated to quality and slow cooking methods this year and different flavor combinations. There will be plenty of hits and maybe a few misses along the way but that's why we are Sotto Sopra - pushing a little bit the status quo. However as I've said multiple times, I want you to send back the dishes that you don't like - this is how we evolve. You are my regular customers and I love your input!!
I wish you all a great month,
Take care of yourself and each other
Ciao,
Riccardo, Monika, and piccola Amelia

AMELIA'S PICK
I'm hiding out at the moment, incognito - just look at my hair. Mama, time to start your princess at the salon. I think I want to try Salon 36 Kids in Pikesville. They have a special for first hair cuts which includes a cut, photo, locket of hair, special keepsake certificate and frame for $29. Maybe you can barter papa's cooking and I can get a manicure and pedicure while I'm there. I'm pretty in pink! Amelia

SEARCH STARTS FOR BONES OF LIKELY MONA LISA MODEL
FLORENCE, Italy-Italian researchers on Wednesday began looking for the remains of a Renaissance woman many believed posed for the "Mona Lisa." The researchers used a geo-radar device to search for underground tombs in a Florence convent where Lisa Gherardini is believed to be buried.
Tradition has long linked Gherardini, the wife of a rich silk merchant named Francesco del Giocondo, to Leonardo da Vinci's painting, which is known in Italian as "La Gioconda" and in French as "La Joconde." Giorgio Vasari, a 16th-century artist and biographer of Leonardo, wrote that Leonardo painted a portrait of del Giocondo's wife. Read the FULL STORY HERE
PUGLIESE CUISINE WITH CINZIA RASCAZZO
Cinzia Rascazzo is co-founder of the Stile Mediterraneo Cooking & Wine School in Puglia, a Harvard MBA, wine sommelier, olive oil taster and professional pianist. After living abroad for 15 years, in 2005 Cinzia realized she was missing the good food, blue sea, and the slow life she had in Italy, so she quit her finance job in NY/London and went back to Puglia. Now she and her sister Marika, a cardiologist, run the Stile Mediterraneo School as a way to share their cuisine, culture and love of Puglia while focusing on the simple, home-made and healthy cuisine they learned from their grandmothers.
