Cari amici di Sotto Sopra,

Here we go again! This will be the last newsletter of 2010. Time goes by at the speed of light! I can't believe it , Amelia will be one year old.

As I reflect on the year that was, I can't stop thinking of the monumental transformation Sotto Sopra has gone through in such a short period of time. I'm back after three long years in my beloved kitchen; the menu is the best menu I've dreamed for Sotto Sopra in 15 years and our business has almost doubled. Though Thanksgiving has just passed, I want to thank all of you for the support and motivation you have given me and my staff. We are pleased to say that you have raised our Zagat numbers, we're consistent with our food although your votes have raised our service to 23 and décor to 24.

December will be a very busy month for Sotto Sopra and we have many dates blocked for parties, so make sure you call us before you decide to come and see us. Need a quick gift, don't forget you can buy gift certificates on line or you can link to it right here in the newsletter below.

By the way, we are hosting a great event with our ala carte menu December 19th with Tenor Elio Scaccio - we've changed the date to accommodate those who want to make it part of their holiday celebrations. It will be open reservations like any other night offering our dinner menu.

Sunday, December 12th, Chef Christian DeLutis will be our guest chef for the six course Opera Night meal. That same day Chef DeLutis is holding a late morning cooking class in our kitchen preparing a selection of items from the Opera Night menu.

Put a little Italian in your holidays and join us:

Christmas Eve: open  4 pm to 10 pm

Christmas Day: open 12 pm to 9 pm

with a limited selection of Sotto Sopra's regular menu items.

New Year's Eve: open 5 pm to 11 pm

New Year's Day 2011: open 2 pm to 9pm.

Monika and I want to wish all of you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season. We hope that you will have a great 2011 and we certainly hope to see you from time-to-time in the coming year. As I've said many times, you, the customer, create great restaurants with your support, enthusiasm, and fun energy - not the other way around! We just provide you with the "establishment!"

Ciao a tutti,

Happy Holidays,

Amelia Christening

Riccardo, Monika, piccola Amelia & Sotto Sopra staff

Amelia

I'm almost a big girl, I'll be one year old January 2nd and I want a pony, I want Rody the bouncing pony. He's pink don't you know and he's like me, Italian! Well he is made in Italy and my papa, you all know he's Italian. So Santa can you hear me? I've been good!!!!!!

HAVE YOU HEARD JACKIE EVANCHO?

A ten year old girl with the voice of an angel, makes her debut on America's Got Talent. If you have not heard her sing then
please watch this video. You can't help but smile and feel this little girl's joy.

Kid Glue reports, "Ten year old Jackie Evancho's first album has entered the Billboard 200 at #2 with her first album, O Holy Night. Evancho, who was a runner-up in September on America's Got Talent is the youngest person to ever crack the top ten.  Michael Jackson used to hold the record - he was eleven when the Jackson 5 had their first top ten album.  Zac Hanson was also 11 in 1997 when Hanson first hit the Billboard list.  Other young hit makers, like Stevie Wonder, LeAnn Rimes and Miley Cyrus were all thirteen when they reached top ten status." A GOOD READ - PARLA FOOD

From time-to-time we discover blogs we like to visit, blogs about living and dining in Italy. We recently came across Katie Parla, a travel writer, food historian and sommelier who on her own dime writes Parla Food.  The article that caught our eye was In Rome, Not All Dishes are Created Equal that we think you will enjoy.

If any of you are going to be in Rome for Christmas, Parla shares tips on restaurants that will be open: Rome for the Holidays.

If Italy is in your travel plans you may wish to bookmark the Parla Food Blog.

ROME: For all of Italy's ancient wonders, the real wonder might be that so many are still standing, given the poor care they get. The latest loss was the collapse this month of a frescoed house in Pompeii where gladiators prepared for combat. - Read the full story
