Cari Amici, This is our first month back in the US since our long trip to Italy. I must say it is becoming harder and harder to leave Italy since my family and siblings are there and we are so close to one another! However, I also like to come back an wow my customers with great food. This is the season that I love the most; figs, mushrooms, white truffles, wild boar, chestnuts, pumpkin, root vegetables and a lot of cheese. I hope you decide to come by Sotto Sopra and taste all these delicious fall flavors. Anyhow, I'm very excited to be back cooking my favorite foods and to celebrate life everyday with you, my friends. As you may have noticed, I try to stop by every table and say hello to make sure you are comfortable knowing that I'm in the kitchen every night. I want you to know that I love constructive criticism and you are free to point out defects or outright mishaps at any time in my restaurant. We strive for perfection but there are times with the best laid plans something happens. I like to improve your experience at Sotto Sopra and only you can help me.
Which brings us to welcoming the official food critic, blogger and news maven to the Baltimore Sun, Richard Gorelick. Richard just reviewed Sotto Sopra this past week. We appreciate his constructive insights and thought you would enjoy reading the review, Authentic tastes of Milan at Sotto Sopra
For my Italian friends I also included a video of my uncle Pierangelo talking bergamasco. See if you can figure out what he is saying. By the way the goat cheese he makes out the goats milk is amazing!! He is 71 years old and look how good nature treats you when you actually enjoy it!! Just click on the photograph to watch the video.
Amelia traveled well, it tired her out as you will see from her Christening photograph below. Take care of yourself and each other. Life is truly beautiful!! Ciao a tutti,

Riccardo, Monika, piccola Amelia & Sotto Sopra staff

AMELIA'S PICK
I loved meeting my grandparents in Poland and Italy. I got all dolled up for my Christening but it did run long and into my nap time ~ I need my beauty sleep.
I'm feeling a bit preppy for the cooler FALL season. A little argyle piece in pink will suit me just fine.

I'm pretty in pink!Amelia |

MARC DE GRAZIA WINE DINNER
Monday, October 18th ~ 7 p.m.
North Charles Fine Wines invites you to a wine dinner at Sotto Sopra Restaurant. Wines will be presented by guest speaker Todd Ruby of Marc de Grazia.
Marc de Grazia Selections has been promoting fine Italian wines since 1980. Represented are over eighty small estates from fourteen Italian wine regions with an emphasis on significant "terroir" and a preference for autochthonous varietals: Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, Verdicchio, Garganega, Nero d'Avola, to name a few. The company's efforts are by no means limited to exporting and marketing, but from the beginning the founder, Marco de Grazia, has worked closely with the "vignerons" in all phases of production.
As a result, the reciprocal care and dedication of the producers in the vineyards and cellars has over the years proferred a steady growth in quality.
The estates part of the portfolio are imported world-wide and may be found throughout Western and Eastern Europe, North America, Australia as well as Japan, Hong Kong, South-East Asia, Korea, Taiwan, Israel, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Perù.

FROM ITALY
RICCARDO'S TRIP TO ITALY
While having a fun breakfast in Vernazza, Italy, a guy walks in for his morning cappuccino in his underwear. It was hilarious and reminded me of my first time at a water park in the U.S. wearing my Speedo. I was ridiculed so much I had to drive back not even touching the water. Is that too much information? Just click the link above to see the snap.
ITALIAN ISLE A MOVIE-LOVER'S DREAM
Ischia's mud and thermal waters have long been revered by the vain, lame or infirm for their rejuvenating and healing qualities. Now the Italian island idyll is a magnet for famous faces from film and TV, who flock to the island's spas, springs and watering holes.
Just an hour's boat trip from Naples, Ischia is bigger sister to the more famous Capri, immortalized by August Kopisch, Claude Debussy, Somerset Maugham and Norman Douglas and the backdrop for 17 or so movies. ITALIANS GET IN A STEW OVER MAMMA'S LATE LUNCHES
MILAN (Reuters) - Serie A's decision to introduce lunchtime kickoffs was roundly criticised on Monday following Sunday's drab 0-0 draw between Bari and Cagliari.
Italian fans, who prefer evening games despite the large distances away supporters have to travel, had already complained about the early kickoffs with banners saying "Sorry Mamma I'll be late for lunch" at the two previous midday matches this term.
Television broadcasters were behind the innovation for this season where one Sunday match is played earlier than the rest but a further problem arose this weekend when the midday heat in southern Italy meant the players in Bari struggled. Read the full story HERE.
