...

I have learned over the years that one of the best
resources for staffing in the restaurant biz is to
ask your own customers. At Sotto Sopra we are in need  of two well groomed servers and a couple of bussers/food runners/ hostess (yes at Sotto Sopra I teach multitasking)

May is around the corner and I have decided to send out the newsletter one week earlier to give you enough time to plan for our events.
 
April started on a slow note but business has been increasing ever since. We have some new exciting events planned in the months ahead so stay tuned and keep reading my newsletter.

The dollar pasta night was an unbelievable success and we will make it our yearly charity event. We are still counting the proceeds, but as of this writing we raised $3400 from your donations with about 20 envelopes to still count. For those of you that came out I extend a sincere thank you from all of us at Sotto Sopra. Looking at my little baby Amelia everyday I truly thank God that she was born healthy. When I look at the work of the Kennedy Krieger it makes even more sense to me to dedicate my efforts toward this charity. They are really doing God's work.

Wine - no whining here
 
We have brought Tim Clune on as our consultant for our new wine list. Tim was our consultant two years ago before he moved out to California. He is back and we look forward to working with him on our new wine list. The new wine list will have different sections with a " value" section where we will research and taste the best kept secrets in the wine world and pass the best value on to you.
 
Please join Tim at our First Thursday wine tasting at Sotto Sopra on Thursday, May 6th at 6 p.m.  Meet Tim, taste an assortment of summer white wines from around the world and some lite bites from Chef Crouse. Come share your thoughts on wine, enjoy his picks for the summer months and engage him in wine chat - he's is extremely knowledgeable.
 
Mother's Day
 
Yes it is true, at age 37 I'm still mama's boy!  I love my mom, I love my wife-now-mom, and I love all the mothers out there! You put up with a lot of stress and that's not counting the husbands.  I don't know how Monika puts up with me every day but boy she manages it like an angel. God bless you amore.

Anyway, before I get carried away, Sotto Sopra will open early on Sunday, May 9th at 10 a.m.  We will be offering special menus prepared by Chef Bill, and I hope you will join us for brunch or supper.

Tim will take you through 5 to 6 white wines from around the world that he feels are great choices for the warmer spring and summer months. Having just returned from 18 months in the wine country of the central coast of California, Timothy Clune has returned to the DC area, and to Sotto Sopra, to share his passion for wine and food with all who are willing to listen. You can find Timothy at Sotto Sopra's First Thursday wine tasting events, and throughout the month, roaming the dining room to help you select the perfect wine to compliment your meal.

Timothy grew up in restaurants along with his brother Christopher, also familiar to longtime Sotto Sopra regulars. Tim had a desire to learn all he could about food and wine alike and at the age of 21, he focused on wine service. He has worked with many famous chefs from around the globe and continually increasing his understanding of the world of wine by working in retail and wholesale environments.

On Saturday, May 15th Sotto Sopra would like to honor the men and women in Armed Forces on Armed Forces Day. These brave souls have and are putting their lives on the line to protect this country and our way of life we have grown to expect. Freedom is a privilege not something to be taken for granted.  On this special Saturday night, May 15, 2010 we are giving a 30% discount on their food choices to any and all armed forces personnel wearing their uniforms.  Promotion is applicable to both lunch and dinner on May 15 at Sotto Sopra.

Our cooking classes have been selling out early so if you want to attend don't wait to make your reservations.  There are still a couple of spots left for the June 13th  cooking class.  Since many of you are away on the weekends during the summer we will not be holding classes in July or August but hope to resume sometime in September/October.

Executive Chef Bill Crouse invites you to join him for his cooking class featuring the foods of spring. The class is optional hands-on and held in the restaurant kitchen. At the end of the class everyone gets to sit down in the dining room and enjoy the dishes prepared with a spot of vino.


Class is usually 3 to 4 recipes. Cost is 65 per person and guaranteed reservations are required.
