Ola Amigos-

I recently enjoyed a much needed, much enjoyed little Winter break. (Hello Boondogglers!) It was incredibly relaxing making me wish I could share this refreshed state with all of you. I'll settle for doing the best I can to make this month's newsletter a little sojourn of sunshine. Let's start with a few deep cleansing breaths... empty the mind and concentrate on your breathing.... don't try to control it, just follow it... think about how it would feel to be sitting in a nice spot of sun... listening to the lull of the ocean.... let your head and neck relax.... take a nice deep breath and remind yourself how truly phenomenal you are... and read on....

Reading Recommendations from the Cottage Shelves

bookthief No ifs, ands or buts... there is one and only one book that you MUST read this month- The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. It was the January selection for the Duck's Cottage Reading Group and to a person it was proclaimed the 'best book I've read in a long time!' One member said it was the best book she's ever read and several teared up just talking about it. You'll find it in the young adult (youth) fiction section of the library or bookstore but don't confuse it as being too elementary. Zusak's use of language is exquisite and his story, despite its Holocaust setting, is beautiful. The tale is narrated by the haunting character of Death, a personable, deeply caring entity who doesn't do the killing, just the harvesting of newly deceased souls which he does with touching compassion. Through his main characters- two average children coming of age in Nazi Germany, Zusak reminds us of the secondary victims of the regime- the powerless German everyman. This is a book you will most likely read in one sitting and I gurarantee you'll be telling everyone you know about this book just like I've been doing ever since I finished it. (For a few more suggestions this month read Flotsam & Jetsam below.)

hp staff J.K. Rowling has finally announced a release date for the final book in the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released on July 21, 2007 (read: midnight the evening of July 20).  Villa Y Casa Y Luna
 Get there... now

villa I was recently the recipient of someone else's birthday present but they didn't mind that I shared! In fact, they wanted me to partake! My incredible college roommate, Cathy Boone, was turning 40 (weren't we all!) and decided to do it in style by renting a gorgeous oceanfront house in Playa del Secreto (that's about 20 minutes south of Cancun Airport). She then proceeded to invite 16 - 18 girlfriends from various lifestages to join her and arranged for two chefs (Miguel & Jose) to prepare delicious meals every day- I seem to recall one night even licking our plates. The staff took care of the food, the bar, making drinks and snacks, cleaning it all up.... it was absolutely hedonistic. A phone call to the local spa brought technicians running to deliver facials, massages, mani/pedis, etc. The only decision? Whether to have your treatment poolside or in the privacy of your own room. (My nails looked so good I tried to declare them at US Customs). We were 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen (fun shopping) and an hour from the ruins at Tulum. The Casa features two levels of living space which can be rented separately or together. Each level has a full kitchen, dining area and living room, large covered porch, and 3 - 4 bedrooms, most with private baths. A rooftop deck, refreshing pool and oceanfront views provide the finishing touches. The house is gorgeous, the setting fabulous and your life will never be complete if you don't find a way to spend at least one week in this numinous place. Got the winter blues? Catch a plane and catch some rays at the house of the sun and moon. (Be sure to mention that Cathy Boone sent you!!)

Check out the Villa today!
