Greetings!

We hope you are well!

This month is A Little Elf's 6 year anniversary.  It's been a huge learning experience and we've had a large list of amazing people to call our clients and friends.  Thank you to all of you.  Thank you to our clients for welcoming us into your homes and lives, we have been honoured with your trust and hospitality.

The last 6 years have been a lot of fun.  I've met Peter Walsh my organising mentor, I've been the prize 2nd year running for Marbig's Messiest Office competition, and this year for Howard's Storage World's Wardrobe Makeover competition.   I've met and worked with many wonderful clients, amazing Professional Organisers in Australia and the States,  and very supportive business associates.

I'm A happy Little Elf!  Happy organising!

Warm regards,
Karen Koedding

Six Years of Learnings
I am going to share some of the six years of learning I have had with respect to our clients and their organising projects.

1. Everyone needs help most of the time.  Whether you need to outsource organising your home, bringing the donations to the charity, cleaning your home, educating your children, finding balance in your life, managing your time, getting exercise...we can all use a little help.

2. Our lives are overstuffed with responsibilities, time commitments, activities, and physical belongings.

3. People spend a lot of time and money taking care of their belongings.  Time spent shopping, dusting, moving items around.  Money buying, storing, paying debt.

4. Bigger and more is not always better.  Often times it is costlier to buy, to maintain, and more time consuming.  That big beautiful house equals how many more overtime hours of work, more hours cleaning and maintaining, more money lighting, keeping warm, and fixing?

5. Facing an organising project can be extremely overwhelming.  It needs to be faced methodically with the end in mind.  Start in a small section and stay with it until complete.  Take a before photo so you can remember how it started.  Ask for help.

6. People are kind and generous.  Sometimes to the detriment of taking care of themselves.

7. The biggest obstacles in staying organised are...feeling overwhelmed, lack of time, over-shopping, perfection, sense of obligation to others (ie keeping inherited items and gifts), emotional attachments to objects, a feeling of insecurity.

8. Organised people can become disorganised because of major life events (marriage, divorce, children, depression, illness, etc).

9. People are too hard on themselves.  If you stop beating yourself up about being disorganised, step back, and approach the project for what it is, a project to be managed and belongings to be dealt with, you will probably get organised faster.

10. Organisation is absolutely not about perfection.  It is all about function.

11. Not a single organising day goes by without the client exclaiming "That's where that is!".  And in Australia "What the h*ll is this?"  (* for the Big Elf's benefit, hi Mom!)

12. Organising saves money and time.  Our clients become visibly lighter in their shoulders and faces.  It's worth the time and emotional investment to get organised.

We are always happy to help whether its answering questions or helping you get it done.

Thanks everyone for supporting us over the last 6 years!  We are very grateful!

About A Little Elf

It is a well known fact that disorganisation creates stress. And you carry this stress around with you everywhere you go.  We will help you to get organized, giving you more time and energy to do the things that are important to you and a new found freedom from chaos and stress.

A Little Elf provides organising solutions, ideas, information, and teaches you new skills to keep up the systems we put in place. We will help you create an organised space that will increase your productivity and allow you to take control of your belongings, clutter, paperwork - or whatever it may be that is stopping you from living a full and productive life, as opposed to these things controlling you.
