MySpace Page for Summerhill Film
Summerhill coverImagine a School...Summerhill by director William Tyler Smith (The Third Mind), was filmed in England over a period of seven years. The feature length documentary follows the dramatic story of England's only free school, as the students, staff and a few formidable barristers take on OFSTED (Office for Standards in Education) and Tony Blair's Labor Government to fight for its existence. Imagine a School...Summerhill is an often moving, compelling and sometimes provocative look at one of the most dramatic events in the history of the 87-year-old Summerhill School. For clips and more info see the film's new page on MySpace.com: http://myspace.com/imagineaschoolsummerhill

Small Charities, Big Help
Small Charities, Big Help is a project of JS Media News & Views to let you know about some great nonprofit organizations that are small but mighty. Whatever you can do for these folks would be much appreciated.
 donorschoose.org
In the spirit of September's back to school mode, here is a nonprofit that focuses on U.S. teachers and students called DonorsChoose.org.   Founded by teachers at a Bronx NYC public high school in the spring of 2000, the website connects teachers all over the country with people who want to help them realize their classroom needs, letting donors decide which project and how much they want to give. How cool is that!

During the 2008 Traverse City Film Festival, JS joined writer/producer Jill Gambaro of RMI and met with Janet Lockwood, Director, Michigan Film Office and Marcia Fishman, Exectuive Director SAG, Detroit Branch to discuss Black and White, a musical film that RMI plans to make in Detroit next summer.
Black and White is a West Side Story meets Once urban musical set in Detroit during the late sixties. With the added advantage of Michigan's new 42% film incentives, it seems more appropriate than ever to do the project in Michigan.
