Filmmakers Workshop  

September 14, 2010. Proposal workshop
6:30 PM - 9:00 PM (ET)

Join your fellow filmmakers in a peer proposal review session. Bring your materials (yes, budgets too) and we'll break into small groups and do a read and review. Come get some feedback BEFORE you send it to a review panel. We'll have the ability to screen some trailers and work samples too, if your question is about your sample.

Out In The Silence  Congratulations to directors Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer on their nomination for an Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Mid-Atlantic Chapter. Good luck guys!

Under Water's Mercy  directed by Sharon Hong will participate in IFP's Project Forum. The Project forum is the centerpiece of Independent Film Week, designed specifically as a place for industry to meet with new talent, as well as discover fresh projects from emerging and veteran filmmakers.

Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin  The award winning film, directed by Nancy Kates & Bennett Singer, is now available from Netflix for rental and instant play.

Founded earlier this year, the DocYard is a series celebrating what is exciting, innovative and extraordinary in non-fiction film with a goal of growing a vibrant, creative community for Boston's filmmakers, film students and film lovers. The series is a collaboration between the LEF Foundation, the Camden International Film Festival and Principle Pictures.

The Camden International Film Festival returns for its sixth season in October 2010. The festival will once again shine the spotlight on works that show dedication to craft and a unique and artistic approach to telling a darn good story.

Taking place concurrently with Independent Film Week, the Conference addresses creative initiatives, critical technology, current issues and global market place trends through diverse panel discussions, case studies and keynotes.


Points North Documentary Film Forum
October 1st - 2nd. Camden IFF - Rockport, ME.
Camden International Film Festival

The Points North Documentary Forum held during the Camden Int'l Film Festival is a gathering of some of the documentary community's industry leaders. The Forum is a unique opportunity for the New England non-fiction community to connect with key decision-makers through several panels, structured networking sessions, receptions and informal gatherings. 

Points North Pitch Submissions are now open until September 10th.
New this year is the first Points North Pitch, an opportunity for New England filmmakers to pitch current projects in development to an international delegation of industry leaders who will provide critical feedback and advice. Submissions are accepted online.

Maine Film & Video Association & Points North Documentary Film Forum will present a special funding seminar
for producers to grasp the essential concepts and principles of how to make their projects more competitive when applying to ITVS.

WIFVNE will host an awards event to celebrate the winners. The event will feature a workshop with blockbuster Groundhog Day screenwriter, Danny Rubin, award-winning Lulu in Berlin's writer, Susan Steinberg, and Marc Weinberg- writer for USA network, A&E.

ITVSUpcoming Funding Cycles
Diversity Development Fund: Deadline has moved to November 12, 2010.
DDF provides up to $15,000 in research and development funding to producers of color to develop single documentary programs for public television. Funded activities may include travel, research, script development, preliminary production for fundraising/work-in-progress reels, or other early phase activities.


International Call provides production funds for single non-fiction television programs that bring international perspectives, ideas, events and people to U.S. television. This initiative is for non-U.S. producers who are citizens of a different country and live outside the U.S.

Center for Independent Documentary was founded in 1981 to collaborate with independent producers to create films and videos on issues of contemporary social and cultural concern. These programs have been broadcast nationally and locally on public and cable television, won numerous awards, and are in distribution to educational markets worldwide. CID is also a founding member of the Massachusetts Production Coalition.
