  • Littelfuse Opens New Tech Center at the Research Park
  • On March 1, 2010, Littelfuse, Inc., a leader in the circuit protection industry, opened a new technical center with a high-power test lab at 2110 South Oak Street. Littelfuse operates within the electronics, automotive, and electrical industries. Their products are essential components in virtually every product that uses electrical energy, including automobiles, consumer electronics, handheld devices, computers, industrial equipment and telecom/datacom circuits. Its new location will accelerate Littelfuse's research and development efforts as it will have access to the University's resources.

"Establishment of a technical center linked to a top-tier university supports Littelfuse's mission to maintain our leadership position in the circuit protection industry," said Gordon Hunter, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Littelfuse. Fox/Atkins is excited to have Littelfuse in the Research Park. Join us in welcoming them! To learn more about Littelfuse, visit www.littelfuse.com.

  • Chromatin, Inc. Moves into their New Facilities in the Research Park
  • On April 1, 2010, Chromatin expanded its facilities by moving to the Graduation Building in the Research Park, allowing them to increase their research and development capabilities. This expansion of Chromatin, which has been located in EnterpriseWorks since 2005, will allow the company the opportunity to develop new seed products and pursue a more extensive range of applications. Chromatin utilizes innovative technologies to benefit a wide array of industries. With its proprietary technology that makes it possible to simultaneously introduce multiple genes into a plant, Chromatin creates crop products with valuable efficiencies to better meet performance requirements.

Also, Chromatin announced in May that they have acquired Sorghum Partners, Inc. and Milo Genetics, LP, which provides Chromatin access to a multi-national network of sorghum growers and distributors for bioenergy growth. We congratulate Chromatin on their growth and look forward to their continued success in the future. To find out more about Chromatin's research, visit them at www.chromatin.com.

  • OLLI Moves to Gateway Building
  • OLLI Logo

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will move to its new facility on June 15th. OLLI has experienced tremendous growth since its first semester. With the community's growing desire to continue learning and participating in classes, OLLI strives to accommodate its growing numbers by moving from its current location at the Z3 Building to the first floor of the Gateway Building. The new space will have an additional large classroom as well as a great new space for all-member events.

Also, the new space creates a great opportunity for OLLI to present additional opportunities for its members, providing space to hold new classes and events. As OLLI's facilities grow, its membership will undoubtedly follow, marking a chance for OLLI to develop beyond its current growth of over triple its original membership. Congratulations to OLLI on all their success! To learn more or to become a member of OLLI, visit them at olli.illinois.edu.

  • Bonadies Creative, Inc. Moves into the Strata Building
  • Bonadies Creative, Inc. is a marketing design firm that moved into their new offices in the Strata Building on April 1, 2010. Bonadies has a number of clients at the University of Illinois and at the Research Park. John Bonadies, founder of the company, wanted to move to the Park to be closer to his many clients. Please help us welcome Bonadies to the Strata Building and wish them further success! To learn more about Bonadies Creative, please visit www.bonadiescreative.com.

  • NanoSi Expands its Presence at the Park
  • NanoSi is expanding their presence at the Research Park by opening a new office in the State Farm Building. NanoSi utilizes commercially available silicon wafer material in a new highly catalyzed electrochemical etching procedure to produce fluorescent silicon nanoparticles (FSP), of great interest for biomedical, optoelectronic, and low power electronics applications. The procedure is scalable to commercial applications, making the U.S. the premier global supplier for nano-sized (one billionth of a meter) silicon material for these critical technologies. Please welcome NanoSi to the Research Park. To learn more about NanoSi, please visit www.nanositech.com.

  • Lunch at the Park
  • Fox/Atkins will organize monthly lunches in the Research Park with different restaurants on the second Friday of each month. Come grab a bite or hang out with your co-workers and meet some new people.

On Friday, June 11th from 11:30-1:30 pm, lunch will be held at the SAIC/CAT Building, 1901 South First Street, on the first floor atrium. Providing the lunch is Great Harvest Bread Co. with its following menu of choices:

    · Half sandwich (turkey/cheddar or roast beef/provolone) on fresh honey whole wheat bread, chips and a giant scratch made cookie

    · Harvest salad- fresh spring greens, sweet dried cherries, toasted sunflower seeds, tomato, red onion, manchego cheese, and house made croutons with a fresh yeast roll and a scratch made cookie

    · Pepperoni cheese lunch roll and a giant oatmeal chocolate chip walnut cookie

We hope to see you there!

  • OUTSIDE at the Research Park
  • Friday, July 16th and Friday, August 13, 2010

Come enjoy great music, food, and drinks at the fourth annual OUTSIDE at the Research Park Concert Series! The event features free concerts by national artists in a fun, relaxed environment while promoting green philosophies. All concerts are free and appropriate for all ages, so all are welcome to bring the whole family to the green festival.

    Featured green practices:

    · bio-diesel generator powering the stage (donated by Caterpillar in 2009)

    · biodegradable and/or recycled materials in all food services operations

    · source-separation and recycling of all glass, aluminum, and plastic

    · locally-grown and organic foods available for purchase whenever possible

    · energy-saving LED technology in landscape lighting

    · August 13th at 5:30 pm, the concert will feature a green fair, showcasing green businesses and organizations

    July 16th, 6:15 pm

One of the most entertaining and in-demand Creole Zydeco bands, Nathan Williams and the Zydeco Cha Chas, will be taking the stage at 7:30 pm. In the world of contemporary African-American music, roots styles are easily categorized as old music, good for sampling maybe, but not music that relates to the lives of mainstream American people. Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas might make us think twice about this assumption, for here is uplifting, new music that remains connected to its place in history. If you haven't heard what's happening in zydeco lately, here's your chance!

    August 13th, 5:30 pm

Blending high-energy soukous, Ghananian Highlife, and African Jazz, the Occidental Brothers Dance Band International with Samba Mapangala will perform at 7:30 pm. They have conjured the golden age of the African guitar band and have become favorites of music critics and devotees of the style. OBDBI is led by guitarist Nathaniel Braddock, an instructor at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, and twice profiled in Guitar Player magazine. Braddock is joined by Greg Ward on alto, Joshua Ramos on bass, and Makaya McCraven on drums. Samba sings in the melifluous, but rhythmically complex style of the Congolese singers, blending both Swahili and Lingala. Come listen to the music that has inspired an audience as diverse as the members of the band!

Fire-at-Five is a great networking opportunity for the Research Park employees to interact with people from other companies in a fun setting.
