Construction Update
As we pass the 100 day mark until our August 11, 2008 opening, everyone is hard at work to ensure we open our doors and welcome our guests on time. Steel has been erected for the porte cochere at the main entrance of the hotel off First Street. Painting has begun on the second floor of the hotel in the guest rooms and hallways, wallpaper is being hung in the conference center and the east parking lot surface has been installed. Houlihan's Restaurant is being constructed at a rapid pace with framing and flooring work currently in motion.
If you would like a preview of the I Hotel and Conference Center, our pre-opening office and model hotel guest room are located at 2021 South First Street, Suite 206. On your tour, we encourage your feedback/comments on your likes/dislikes and enhancement suggestions for us to consider. Schedule your personal tour by contacting Angela Ford, Director of Sales, at 217.819.5000 or by e-mail at aford@StayAtTheI.com

I Hotel and Conference Center Goes "Green"
In an effort to do our part to sustain our environment, the I Hotel and Conference Center has incorporated many environmentally-friendly features and services, without sacrificing style and comfort. Some of our "green" building features include:
Low consumption plumbing fixtures
- Recycled construction materials
- Regionally manufactured materials
- Low Volatile Organic Compound materials
- Lighting occupancy sensors
- High efficiency light fixtures
- Energy efficient facade
- Energy efficient heating and cooling systems
- Natural refrigerant
- Master switch to reduce power consumption in guest rooms
- Retention of existing landscaping and trees on the site
- Diversion runoff to on-site detention pond
- Close proximity to public transportation and bicycle routes
- Energy efficient appliances
- Shared overflow parking with existing facility
But going "green" doesn't stop there. Operating to AAA four diamond quality standards and having a conscious mind-set on being "green", the "I" management is committed to controlling energy and reducing waste in our day-to-day operations.
For example, the laundry machines being installed have the highest efficiency rating, including a sensor to ensure that dryers are not continously running and energy is saved. We have also instituted a linen reuse program at our guest's discretion, installed water-saving showerheads and toilets in guestrooms, and we will be using energy efficient light bulbs for all lighting features throughout our guest rooms.
I Hotel staff training will include promoting the 3 R's - reduction, re-use, and recycle. The sales team is already reducing the amount of paper used with contracts by electronically processing 90% of communication and documents needed for group bookings at the hotel. Products for day-to-day office operations will be made with recycled content (i.e. paper, ink, etc.) and a recycling program will be in place for paper, bottles, cans, plastic, and cardboard.
In addition, Houlihan's and Conference Center chefs order local produce and meats when possible and leftover food will be donated to local shelters.

Pastry Extravaganza
Employees in the Research Park at the University of Illinois were treated to a free sampling of over 100 different pastries and desserts on May 1st at the iCyt Building. Over 250 employees from the various companies located in the Research Park tasted the tantalizing desserts over their lunch hour and voted on their favorites to be considered for the I Café, opening on August 11 in the I Hotel and Conference Center.
The most popular items included: Caramel Pecan Turtle Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, Creamy Snicker Cheesecake, Tuxedo Mousse Cake, Chocolate Trilogy, Peanut Butter Brownie Cups, Lemon Poppy & Blueberry Coffee Cakes, Dough Roll Cinnamon Twists & Twirls, Silk Tuxedo Cheesecake and the Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit. Voters who turned in their ballots were entered into a drawing for a $25.00 gift certificate good at the I Hotel, Houlihan's Restaurant or the I Café. The lucky winner was Diana Gonzalez of CU Aerospace.
Based on the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from the Research Park voters, I Café patrons will no doubt get hooked on the scrumptious pastries and desserts that will be served with their Starbucks Coffee!
