Christmas Perspectives |
|
I
can’t say that I am too upset that we are about to see this
year in the rear-view mirror. It has been a year filled with
turmoil. Despite a worldwide economic recession and
financial chaos that has directly affected almost everyone,
wars in two parts of the world, and the emotional impact of
a seemingly constant stream of bad news coming from the
media, we are a very blessed people.
It
seems we continually need to re-learn that the basis of our
hope and joy is not our job, wealth or property-- they can
all be gone in an instant. Where is true hope found? It is
found only in the One who came in love and humility to serve
and to save and whose birth we celebrate this Christmas
season. He showed all of us model for joy and contentment in
life.
In
light of the great need in our community, we at DELTEC will
not be sending out Christmas cards or trinkets that will
soon be forgotten. Instead, we will be contributing to
several non-profit service organizations that we have the
privilege to serve as clients. It is our hope these
organizations can use the funds to help someone who is
suffering. And maybe other companies will consider doing
something similar.
As
we look forward to 2010, we are thankful for all the
blessings we have which include the great relationships we
enjoy with our clients, associates, partners, and friends in
the business community. It is an honor to know and work with
each one of you. We wish for each of you a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.
Merry Christmas! |

Server Consolidation
Higher Performance, Greater Resiliency, Lower Operating Costs, What’s
not to like?
Scott Jordan, Founder and CTO

Over
the past decade, in the name of open environments, companies have
continued to acquire several servers for specific applications from
various vendors. This growth in server counts has created what we call
server farms today. One of the unintended consequences of this growth of
server numbers was the enormous cost of maintaining and managing these
servers. Energy and cooling costs alone can run more than the cost of
the equipment, maintenance, and support. Given the higher cost of
operations, and the desire of many companies to be better stewards with
the environment, there is now a growing trend toward server
consolidation.
Server
consolidation efforts are often focused on the reduction of the total
cost of IT environments. However, it is essential to understand the
wider advantages including the ability to re-architect the
infrastructure for greater resiliency, disaster recovery, and
scalability. These efforts will prepare the critical infrastructure of
an organization to face the future demands on system resource for
running a competitive business. Although the key focus of server
consolidation is the reduction of the number of physical servers, it
encompasses a much wider spectrum of activities that include an
evaluation of the total server environment for efficiency, as well as
full infrastructure optimization that takes into consideration the
computing and storage needs of the environment. |

The Problem With Power
|
|
We
live in the Information Age where countless data is created,
transmitted, and stored. We live in the Electronics Age where numerous
electric-powered machines aid in business and household tasks, as well
as entertain and inform us. The reality of living in this time of
technological innovation is that the power to run these machines can't
keep up (at least not yet). What was built years ago for powering
factories producing manufactured goods is struggling to adapt to
provide continuous, sufficient-grade power to sensitive electronics
processing valuable information. Adequate surge suppression and backup
sources of power are a necessity to keep your business up and running.
Spring weather increases the likelihood of electrical disturbances
that can cause downtime and lack of productivity. And It's not just a
total blackout that can cause a problem.
Read on to find out about the
many power events that affect your critical data. And then, if you
feel you are not prepared, contact us to find out what it would take
to protect your business:
