The right foot up drill with Scott Mahlberg
|
Many golfers have problems with crisp contact. Poor body mechanics often are the root cause of the problem. It is important to have the weight to the left (for a right handed player) at impact so that the bottom of the swing is in front of the ball at impact. This helps create a descending angle of attack so that the ball is hit first and that the divot is taken after impact. The drill shown has been very effective for students that have problems getting their weight left at impact. |
The First Annual Coaches Clinic
On February 24th, twenty one of San Diego's finest high school golf coaches gathered together. I gave a presentation on swing dynamics and rules. Cory Scoggin, the USD Men's Golf Coach, spoke about college programs in general and what high school players should do to prepare for college golf. Coleman Mullin, the Stadium Golf Center's club fitter, gave a talk about the importance of club fitting. Complimentary swing analysis and club fitting for those coaches in attendance rounded out the evening.

Student of the Month: Chris Morrow
Chris was really struggling with his putting. He was not getting his lag putts close enough to the hole and was also missing his short ones. His putting markedly improved after having a session in the putting studio. Both of these areas really improved on a consistent basis. In his last round of golf he only required 11 putts on the back nine. Way to go Chris!!
