No Angle Take Away with Scott Mahlberg
|
Many golfers that come for help have problems in their takeaway. A faulty takeaway causes the body and or the club to be out of position. The result is that compensation movements are needed later in the swing so that the body or club can get back into position. This leads to a lot of inconsistency. I have included a drill to help you create a good takeaway and avoid this dynamic. This drill has been around for awhile and has stood the test of time. |
My Reflections of the PGA Tour:
One of the biggest impressions for me is how athletic the PGA Tour professional has become. That was very evident at this year's Farmers Insurance Open. Body fat percentages are in the single digits for many of the players now. The players are hitting the ball prodigious distances. This is definately due to the advance in equipment. Fitness is not far behind. Players are not only going into the weight room to get stronger but also to improve their flexibility and power. This is done through advanced stretching techniques and plyometrics. Jeremy from Body Balance gave 6 examples of golf specific stretches in last month's newsletter. Plyometrics are excercises that are designed to combine strength and speed. There is more of an explosive quality in the modern golf swing as a result of doing these excercises. I think this is the next evolution stage on tour.

Student of the month: Aaron Conroy
Aaron just completed a structured program. He was shooting between 95-105 originally. He is now shooting in the mid 80s and has his sights set on breaking 80 in the near future. Great going Aaron!!

| | Golf Boys - Oh Oh Oh (Official Video) |
On a less serious note, Bubba Watson, Ben Crane, Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler created a video last year that has almost 3 million views. It does a lot to dispel the staid image that many have of professional golfers. This gives you a feeling for the youth movement on the PGA Tour. I hope you enjoy.

New iPad App:
The new "PGA Tour" app for iPads is a tremendous improvement on the old one. It is great for finding out about the players, standings and statistics for the tournament, tournament schedules and many other features. It has a friendly interface and is much better than the PGA Tour web site.
