Emerson says a real man must be a nonconformist

Self-reliance these days is the home of the Zionist

Israel is her own star, that rebel, ingenious mind

Sought after, choked, attacked by those unlike her kind

Let us be the Jewish star, alone but down from the altar

Scoff at self-sacrifice, the nonconformists should not falter

Place trust in the Truth, not in other men and brutes

Speak your mind, shine your light, for victory in all disputes

LA's Consul General David Siegel Addresses ZOA West

At his first speaking engagement for the ZOA Western Region, held on December 20, 2011 and entitled "Israel: Challenges and Opportunities," LA's new Consul General of Israel, David Siegel, challenged the widespread perception that Israel is a nation deep in crisis, whose problems overshadow its triumphs.

"We need to remember what we're representing-a strong, proud, successful nation," Consul General Siegel told an audience of some 65 atthe Jewish Federation building on Wilshire, home to the ZOA's new Western Region offices. READ MORE.

CAMPUS CORNER:
Trouble at CSUN and UC Berkeley
CSUN Math Professor David Klein and His Illogical Anti-Israel Rants

ZOA has joined the  efforts of the AMCHA Initiative
which has been leading a call to the leadership of California State University Northridge (CSUN) to remove the illogical and slanderous anti-Israel rants posted on CSUN's server by CSUN math professor David Klein.

AND follow the story through Tom Tugend's article in the Jewish Journal.

If you know of any Jewish students experiencing anti-Semitic or anti-Israel harassment or intimidation on campus, please contact the ZOA.

Keep J Street out of UC Berkeley's Jewish Student Union

After the Jewish Student Union (JSU) of UC Berkeley voted not to include the anti-Israel group, J Street, as a member, JSU leadership faced intense pressure from Jewish organizations, including its umbrella organization, Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, to reconsider.

In a letter to Hillel's leadership, David Kadosh, ZOA's West Coast Campus Coordinator and Associate Director of Campus Programs, urged the organization to stand by the JSU's responsible decision. JSU leadership subsequently called and thanked the ZOA for lending its support and providing added strength to stick to its original decision.
WORDS FROM WASHINGTON
UPDATE from Daniel Pollak and Joshua London, Co-Directors, ZOA Government Relations

As the New Year begins, the ZOA Government Relations office in DC has both good news and bad news to report. On the positive side, President Obama has finally signed the National Defense Authorization Act for 2012, which includes very strong sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), the most painful economic sanctions to date in the effort to force the Islamic Republic to stop its drive for a military nuclear capability.  Balancing this act are some real questions about the resolve of the Administration to implement these sanctions effectively. Also on the negative sideof the ledger, efforts by the ZOA and members of Congress to make the Palestinian Authority (PA) pay a price for their unilateral efforts to establish a Palestinian Arab State through UN action have stalled, and even the ZOA's close friends in Congress have been unable to stop aid from continuing to the PA.

Newt Gingrich and the Lie of Palestinian National Identity
Republican Presidential frontrunner Newt Gingrich opened public discourse on the nature of Palestinian national identity when he made the historically accurate statement that Palestinians are an "invented people."

Here's a compilation of some of the best columns and articles on the subject:

David Suissa of the LA Jewish Journal hailed "Newt's bombshell" for giving Jews the impetus to shift the narrative driving the conflict towards the Jewish one, perhaps the most effective way to defend Israel.

capitalizes on Gingrich's statement to initiate an ongoing discussion that will lead to the rethinking of the two-state "solution." Caroline Glick of the Jerusalem Post
addresses the attacks on Gingrich lodged by both Jews and Arabs.

Author of Myths and Facts, Eli Hertz, gives a comprehensive overview of Arab presence in the land of Israel to show how Palestinian national identity is a modern construct used to wage political war against the Jewish state. Blogger Daniel Greenfield (Sultan Knish) give added insight into the origins of the "Palestinians."

ZOA Condemns NYT's Thomas Friedman for Anti-Semitic Statement that Jewish Money Buys Congress - Demands Retraction & Apology

The ZOA has condemned as anti-Semitic New York Times' columnist Thomas L. Friedman for stating in a recent column that "I sure hope that Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, understands that the standing ovation he got in Congress this year was not for his politics. That ovation was bought and paid for by the Israel lobby" (Thomas L. Friedman, 'Newt, Mitt, Bibi and Vladimir,' New York Times, December 13, 2011).

Columnist Isi Leibler Exposes NYT's Hostility Towards Israel

In his Jerusalem Post Op-Ed, Leibler writes: The brouhaha over the recent New York Times column by journalist Thomas Friedman highlights the newspaper's increasing hostility against Israel. Today, it would not be an exaggeration to state that the editorial policy of The New York Times towards the Jewish State is virtually indistinguishable from the blatant anti-Israel hostility promoted by the UK-based Guardian or the BBC. Arab & Muslim Countries Abuse Women - But Clinton/Obama Ignores This & Wrongly Condemns Israel Treatment of Women

Jan. 3, 2012 - The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has criticized Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's criticisms about Israeli treatment of women, while the Obama Administration remains silent on truly horrific abuse of women in some Arab and Muslim countries. Earlier this month, at a Saban Center forum in Washington D.C., Secretary Clinton criticized recent attempts by the Israeli government to restrict donations to non-government organizations (NGOs) by foreign governments and said that attempts in some parts of Jerusalem to separate men and women on buses was "reminiscent of Rosa Parks." Obama Fails to Mention Islamist Murderers of Christian Victims After Islamists Murder 39 Christians at Nigeria Churches

Dec. 27, 2011 - The ZOA has expressed concern that President Barack Obama's official statement about this horrific massacre of Christians at three different churches by a group of Muslim terrorists mentions neither the Muslim perpetrators nor the Christian victims when clearly the intentional aim of the Islamist terrorists was to murder Christians at several churches. Newt Becker
The Passing of a Jewish Giant

The ZOA mourns the passing of Newt Becker, a member of ZOA's National Board and a brilliant visionary in promoting his beloved Israel and the Jewish people. Newt was also an extraordinary businessman and accountant par excellence. He built the largest CPA training program in the world. Virtually every CPA knows about the Becker training programs and how excellent Newt Becker's teaching techniques were.
