Another Successful Year for the Hamilton 24 Festival

The former Bank of Montreal building located on the top of Jackson Square at 1 James North was brought to life on Friday, June 8, by the 5th Annual Hamilton24 Festival Film Gala.

The festival requires filmmakers to produce short films within a 24-hour production period using a line, prop, and location pulled from a hat. Since its inception in 2008, the festival has expanded to include 24-hour creative competitions in other artistic disciplines including fashion design, dance choreography, music composition, and visual art.

The screening that took place on June 8th showcased the top 10 films of the 2012 festival. A jury of industry professionals judged the films, provided feedback to the filmmakers, and selected the winners of the festival. Thousands of dollars in prizes were awarded, including equipment rental certificates to William F. White International and Hamilton Video and Sound. The DEVA, the signature award of the festival, a handcrafted alabaster sculpture by local artist Martyn Kendrick was also awarded to the top team.

The event was a tremendous success, with audiences exceeding 800 people.  Huge thanks are due to the festival sponsors for making the event possible: Jackson Square/Yale Properties, 102.9 K-lite FM, William F. White International, Hamilton Video and Sound, Create Media, Steamwhistle Brewing, the Hamilton Office of Film and Television, Grant Thornton, urbanicity, and the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton.

The festival will be back in 2013 for it's biggest and best season yet! Be sure to check out ww.h24.ca for updates and more information.
