Good day!

Welcome to the March edition of the Hamilton Economic Development Newsletter.

The Green Economy

The green economy is a big part of Hamilton's economic strategy over the next several years which has put Hamilton at the centre of the Golden Horseshoe Strategic Energy Alliance (GHSEA)

The GHSEA represents a consortium of business, governmental, educational institutions and utilities working together for the advancement of energy initiatives and economic development of communities. It exists to address the energy challenges facing Ontario and Canada by being an active participant in the global quest for clean, affordable energy solutions.

In order to achieve this quest, the GHSEA will:

* Highlight energy research and manufacturing innovation in the Hamilton and the Greater Golden Horseshoe region - Position this region as a Global Energy Centre of Excellence!
* Contribute to the goals of local community groups and educational initiatives that promote sustainable energy and energy-friendly solutions that are geared to advance the economic well being and quality of life in the Golden Horseshoe region
* Attract world-class manufacturers who are looking to partner with a strong industry supply-chain, leading post-secondary institutions, progressive utilities, leaders and forward thinking communities
* A catalyst for regional economic development by providing new directions for manufacturing and product/service development and stimulate business opportunities in energy products and services (such as: Water, Biomass, Electric Vehicles, Photovoltaics, Wind, Smart Grid) and will foster coordinated and strategic procurement to capitalize on such opportunities.

Chamber on the Move

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce recently announced that they will be returning to Hamilton's downtown core after leaving for a home at Hamilton's waterfront in the 1990s.  This is a great piece of news for Hamilton's core as it shows that it is once again a great place for office space and is now the home for one of Hamilton's leading voices for business.

Shortly, the Chamber will be formally announcing the location of their new home and the Economic Development Office is pleased to welcome them back to where they started.
