May 2012                                      www.tustincommunityfoundation.org

The Tustin Community Foundation directs charitable funds to the real and immediate needs and interests of the greater Tustin community. Since 2008, the Foundation has supported over 60 community-wide programs and local non-profit organizations and schools.  The Tustin Community Foundation is supported 100% by donations from individuals and corporations. The Foundation is not funded by the City of Tustin and does not receive or manage CDBG funds.                                                                                             Let's Look After One Another ...

Help Stamp Out Hunger

Nearly 49 million Americans face hunger every day ... That's more than the population of California!

The National Association of Letter Carriers is helping to address hunger by collecting donations to local food banks on Saturday, May 12.

You can help fight hunger in our community by leaving a food donation by your mail box this Saturday and your mail carrier will collect your donation and deliver it to our local food bank!

Suggested items include canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal and rice that do not require refrigeration. Please do not include items in glass containers.

So when you're out grocery shopping this weekend, pick up a few extra items to leave by your mail box and help STAMP OUT HUNGER.

 RECYCLE ART

Go Green this Spring

and Plant One Thing

You may not have the time or space for a full vegetable garden, but even growing one item this spring can be a boost to our environment.  Fewer chemicals, lower emissions and less packaging waste. Try tomatoes ... they're easy and can even grow in a pot on your patio.  Plus, homegrown tomatoes just taste better!

The Foundation's annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon "Superheroes of Tustin" took place on Friday, May 4 in the Gardens at Wilcox Manor. 200 guests representing 45 local volunteer organizations gathered for a catered lunch that included hero sandwiches, an awards presentation and a guest speaker from OneOC. Entertainment was provided by the Foothill High School Jazz Ensemble and Miss Tustin, Kaila Halili. Super Girl and Wonder Woman were on hand to recognize 35 Superheroes who have spent countless hours serving in our schools and booster clubs, faith-based organizations and service leagues, nonprofits helping seniors, supporting the arts, feeding our hungry and more. Each Superhero received a gift bag full of items donated by local businesses plus certificates of appreciation from Congressman John Campbell, OC Supervisor Bill Campbell and Assemblyman Don Wagner.
Mark your calendars now for next year!  Friday, May 3, 2013.
