Each year the Tustin Community Foundation hosts the Thanksgiving Breakfast to raise funds for our Grant Program.
We hope that you can join us.
This is the largest event of its kind in Tustin and a wonderful way to kick-off the holiday season.
The Tustin Community Foundation is privileged to have
Mr. Larry Broughton
as our Guest Speaker. Mr. Broughton is an award winning entrepreneur, highly acclaimed author and former US Army Green Beret, who will leave the audience energized and inspired.
The Tustin Community Foundation is an independent foundation that is not funded by the City of Tustin. We appreciate the opportunity to raise funds through this community breakfast in the name of the Mayor to support nonprofits and schools throughout the greater Tustin area.
If you are interested in sponsoring this event, please contact Lori Browne at 714-393-8506.

TUSTIN BANDS TOGETHER!
City comes together for the needy of Tustin every November.
The Tustin Community Foundation announces the launch of its first Thanksgiving Charity Month, to be held during the entire month of November every year, when residents and businesses in the greater Tustin area will have a chance to give to those less fortunate in the community. Donations for burgundy colored "Tustin Bands Together" wristbands will be used to support the Foundation's ongoing work with non-profit organizations and schools to meet the real and immediate needs of our community.
"Tustin Bands Together" has been met with much interest and encouragement from the Tustin business community. Many businesses throughout the City of Tustin have kindly consented to display a box of wristbands available for the suggested donation of one dollar and/or to offer special incentives and discounts for customers wearing the bands.
A premier supporter of local nonprofit organizations and schools, the Foundation felt it was important to increase their philanthropic efforts as hometown charities are struggling in this tough economy. In addition, the Foundation received more requests for grant funding this fall than in past years. 2011 Foundation Grants will be awarded at the Tustin Thanksgiving Breakfast being held on November 17.
If you or your company would like to participate and help make a significant difference in our community, please contact Erin Nielsen at 714-393-8506 or visit www.tustincommunityfoundation.org. By the end of November the goal is to see every Tustin area resident and businessperson proudly wearing a burgundy wristband to signify their support for local non-profit organizations.

 LIVE Green
Green Holiday Tips
Holiday cards-Did you know 2.6 billion holiday cards sold each year could fill the size of a football field 10 stories high? Consider switching to emailed holiday cards or try a photo sharing site instead of a traditional card. Buy cards on recycled paper. Buy cards that donate proceeds to a good cause (like Cancer Research). Reuse holiday cards you receive and create gift tags! Recycle your cards when the holidays are over.
Buy a Live Tree-Nearly all Christmas trees are grown on farms, meaning they are planted yearly and not depleting our forests. Artificial trees are made with petroleum-based products and cannot be recycled. Recycle your tree at the end of the holiday season. CR&R and Waste Management will pick your tree up and compost them. Rent a live Christmas tree- Find a location in your area that rents out and picks up your live tree.
Lights-Switch to LED lights. They are 90% more efficient than incandescent lights. Set lights on a timer to save energy and turn them off when you go to bed. You'll be able to enjoy them without using energy all night long. Try using solar powered lights when possible. The smaller the bulb, the lower energy cost.
Paper, paper, paper! Did you know that there are an estimated 20 million tons of EXTRA waste between Thanksgiving and Christmas? Four million tons are wrapping paper alone. Skip wrapping whenever possible. Do you really need to wrap a bicycle? Try hiding gifts and giving clues where to find them. Make the wrapping part of the gift by using scarves and kitchen towels. Use fabric gift bags that can be reused again and again. Recycle ribbon. If every US family reused 2 feet of ribbon it would save 38,000 miles of ribbon. If you must wrap, use wrap made of recycled paper. Shiny, metallic and plastic coated wrapping paper cannot be recycled. If you are mailing, use recycled packing material (never the foam peanuts-Styrofoam counts for 25% of the waste in our landfills and can never be recycled)
Cut Back! A recent survey showed that 78% of Americans wished holidays were less materialistic! Give a gift of yourself such as family recipes, a night of babysitting, a hand car wash, a homemade dinner. Donate to a charity or non-profit in the name of your family. Most feel the best gift is being together.
Shop Smart! If you are out shopping, organize your list first to save on gas. Buy local. Opt for battery free toys whenever possible. Look for eco-friendly tops that are BPA-free, lead free and made from sustainable or recycled materials.

Spread the Word
The Tustin Community Foundation applauds Celebrate with a Sign, a local business that can transform any yard, or office into a greeting card, for supporting military families in our community by offering FREE welcome home displays for military men and women in our community. They offer special low pricing to support our schools and recently placed their signs to promote a local salon's "Cut for the Cure" during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
To view a sample of the celebrations available, visit www.ocyardcards.com or call (714) 975-3673 or (714) 975-3674. Celebrate with a Sign delivers and picks up the rental yard cards throughout Orange County seven days a week, 365 days a year to "help you celebrate happy moments in life." Consider using them to promote your next event or celebration!
