LIVEgreen Tip of the Month:

Did you know your worn out clothing can be put in your home recycle bin instead of the trash? Put your clothing items in a clear plastic bag and into your recycle can. Your gently worn clothing can be reused. Drop them off at a charitable donation center such as the Assistance League, the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

The Tustin Community Foundation is honored to be named 2011 Business of the Year - Non-Profit Category by the Tustin Chamber of Commerce.

Tustin's Historic Treasure is the Venue for a Tea Party

Wilcox Manor, and its ebullient hosts Lindburgh McPherson (second from the left) and Michael Demoratz, welcomed guests to a Love Boat-themed garden tea on June 11.  "High Tea on the High Seas" raised money for the Santa Ana Assistance League, the Tustin Historical Society and the Tustin Community Foundation. Each guest received a copy of "The Love Boat" - the book upon which the very popular television program was based. Books were personally autographed by author Jeraldine Saunders.

GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT

The Tustin Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it will begin accepting grant applications online beginning September 5, 2011, through October 14, 2011, and will award the approved grants at the Tustin Mayor's Thanksgiving Breakfast on November 17, 2011.  To qualify for consideration, organizations must strive to maintain or improve the quality of life in the greater Tustin community and/or address specific community needs.  The Tustin Community Foundation will solicit additional requests for funding in the fall of this year.

The Tustin Community Foundation supports non-profit and non-governmental organizations, along with accredited public and private schools, in the greater Tustin area.  The Foundation strives to achieve its giving mission by making contributions to support programs in five primary Fields of Interest:

  1.         Expanding Educational Outreach
  2.         Athletics, Arts and Cultural Resources
  3.         Outreach Programs to the Underserved or Disadvantaged
  4.         Youth Activities
  5.         Health and Human Services

The Tustin Community Foundation is familiar with local non-profit organizations and with the critical issues facing the greater Tustin community. To assure donors that their contributions will have an impact, TCF researches the organizations and issues they support. All grants are managed according to established best practices. For more information, or to view a list of past grant recipients, please visit http://www.tustincommunityfoundation.org/HTML/grants/grant-program.htm

A Spotlight on Tustin Non-Profits

The Foothill Community Foundation

Charitable Corporation

The Tustin Community Foundation is honored to have received a donation from the FCA Charitable Corporation (FCA CC).  The FCA CC was founded last year to support charitable activities, undertake community enhancement projects, and to support education in the Foothill communities.

Charities supported over the year include The Boys and Girls Club of Tustin, The Joyful Foundation, and The Tustin Community Foundation. The first community project, organized by FCA and accomplished as an Eagle Scout project by Eliott Dykman with support from Boy Scout Troop 243, the County of Orange, and FCA members, was the covering of the 50+ year old rusting fence separating Red Hill Ave and Irvine Blvd from the storm drain channel.

Scholarships were provided to graduating seniors at the Foothill High School in both 2010 and 2011.  Please visit www.FCAhome.org if help is needed with a community issue, to volunteer or to view the list of Directors.

ATTENTION GOLFERS:   All golfers are invited to participate in the 2nd Annual North Tustin Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, September 23, 2011, at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club. To obtain more information, please contact Rick Nelson at rnelson@FCAhome.org or visit

Community Foundation Welcomes

New Board Members

The Foundation is thrilled to welcome two new members to the Tustin Community Foundation Board of Directors, Patricia Buttress and Ed Reynolds. Foundation President Chuck Puckett commented that "Ed and Pat bring diverse backgrounds to the Foundation that will enrich our organization and help us continue to spread the word about building sustainable legacy philanthropy throughout our community."

Ed Reynolds, a graduate of Foothill High School and USC, and his wife, Karin, reside in North Tustin and are the parents of three grown children. Ed is President of The Reynolds Group (TRG ), participates on the University of Southern California's (USC) School of Engineering Board of Councilors, serves with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, has been involved in the local aquatics community for more than 40 years and currently sits on the USA Water Polo Board of Directors. Ed is fluent in Spanish and brings a unique perspective to the Foundation.

Pat Buttress, a native Southern Californian and resident of Orange, works for Southern California Edison (SCE) as the Local Public Affairs Region Manager covering the cities of Orange, Villa Park, Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Placentia and Yorba Linda and Tustin.

Pat has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration/Economic Development and an MBA from California State University, Long Beach. Pat is very active in various community organizations and has served on the boards of the Orange Planning Commission, Orange Public Library Foundation Board, Community Foundation of Orange, Bowers Museum Advisory Council, Orange Elderly Services, Inc. and the Fullerton, Brea, La Habra and Orange Chambers of Commerce. The Foundation is excited to have Pat bring her experience with her as she serves on the Grant Committee.

Stepping out of their roles on the Board are Steve Nelson and Jill Leach. The Foundation thanks Steve for his dedication to our community and we wish him well as he takes on new SCE responsibilities outside of Tustin. Steve enthusiastically served on the Board as a valuable member of the Grant Committee beginning in 2008. Jill has served on the Board since the Foundation's early years and will continue to work with the Foundation as Senior Advisory Council Trustee. The Foundation is excited to announce that Jill will soon kick off a "what's happening" blog on the Foundation website!

The Tustin Community Foundation encourages community involvement by connecting people who care with causes that matter to make difference in our community every day.
