TCF's LIVEgreen Tip of the Month:

Did you know that every year, over 540,000,000 yellow page type phone directories are delivered to homes and businesses and over 19,000,000 trees are destroyed in the making of those phone directories? If you have already received yours, make sure that you recycle your old one, but even better, you can stop those from being delivered by going to  www.yellowpagesoptout.com.

Kinship Center Wins 2011 Chili Cook-off Grant

kinship logo
For almost two decades, the Kinship Center has given a second chance at life to some of Orange County's most vulnerable children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned by building stable and loving adoptive families that can help traumatized children become healthy adults. Funds from the Tustin Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off will be used for technology enhancements in the training room at the Kinship Center's new Tustin facility. By investing in these enhancements, this grant from the Tustin Community Foundation, through the Tustin Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off, will have a significant impact on local children and families.  Read more...

Tustin Community Foundation Creates Smiles

A Foundation Grant puts new netting on THS batting cages.

THS Batting Cages

Samantha Orozco, Tustin High School Baseball Booster President, is thrilled with the grant the Tustin Community Foundation gave to THS Baseball. "On behalf of Tustin High Baseball, I would like to thank the Foundation for awarding us a Grant to refurbish the netting for our batting cages.  The netting was fast becoming a safety issue and could no longer be repaired, so the money was put to use immediately. Your Grant will go a long way, as our batting cages are used by all of the THS Baseball and Softball teams, and by all the young players who attend Coach O'Donogue's annual Tustin area youth winter and summer camps.  Thank you so much for the Grant!"

Disaster Preparedness Seminar: Earthquakes
From it's inception, the Tustin Community Foundation envisioned a unique social service organization dedicated to meeting "emerging community needs" on a timely basis.  As a result of requests to the Foundation regarding earthquake information, the Tustin Police Department is pleased to offer disaster preparedness training in partnership with the Tustin Community Foundation and REI.  This training will be hosted at the REI store, located in the Market Place in the City of Tustin, on May 14, 2011 at 10 A.M.  The training will encompass basic disaster preparedness and planning and will be geared toward preparing families to be self-sufficient in a disaster for the first 72 hours of the incident.  The training is provided free of charge and all ages are welcome to attend.  Click here for more information or call 714-393-8506.

Teen Safe Driving  Seminar Gets Results

100% of Attendees Surveyed Will No Longer Text and Drive

texting while driving

Cars are the #1 killer of teens, taking too many young lives every year! There are up to eight preventable teenage deaths a day because kids text or talk on their cell phone while driving, play loud music, don't wear a seat belt, speed, or have distracting passengers in their car.

Parents and teens gathered at the Tustin Area Senior Center on a Friday evening in March to attend a free Safe Driving Seminar hosted by the Foundation and DCH Tustin Acura. After attending the seminar 100% of survey respondents said they will no longer text while driving, and that they would share the information learned in the seminar with friends and family.
