Ask the Expert:
What is Winter Burn?
| | Tip burn on 'Green Velvet' Boxwood |
Do your boxwoods look like this?
In the fall when evergreens push out new growth, these tender shoots can sometimes be damaged by the winter winds and cold temperatures. The overall integrity of the plant is rarely affected, but the 'burnt ends' should be trimmed off to allow new spring growth to develop.
If you have a question about something that you are seeing on one of your plants and need help identifying what it is, feel free to email us a picture or stop in to the nursery and let us help diagnose what issues your plants are experiencing. |

It has been an especially harsh winter this year in St. Louis, and your landscape beds could probably use a freshening, complete with one of our top grade mulches. Bed edge looking a little rough? Spade edging will help redefine and sharpen your landscape beds and make your yard the envy of your neighbors. Don't forget the pre-emergent!
