Recent Burglaries in CIDNA
There were seven reported burglaries in the neighborhood in the month of April (6 of the 7 were garage burglaries). Garage burglary locations: 27xx Lake of the Isles Pkwy W 27xx Upton Ave S 27xx Dean Pkwy 28xx Cedar Lake
Three garages were entered via usage of a garage door opener. In all three cases, the garage door opener was accessed via a car parked in the driveway. In one case the car window was broken, in another case the window was unlocked.
For the other three garage burglaries, two garages were entered via an unlocked service door; the other was a service door that was pried open.
The main loss from all these burglaries was bicycles. In one case, a wallet was stolen from the glove box of an unlocked vehicle inside a garage.
All of these garage burglaries appear to have occurred overnight or in the evening.
An apartment burglary occurred on 29xx Dean Pkwy sometime over an extended period. Entrance was made via a window which was accessible from the ground. The suspect appeared to have removed the screen and then pushed the window open, breaking the lock.
Recommendations: - Lock all garage doors, including service doors. If your service door does not properly lock, consider reinforcing it so it will.
- Record the make, model and serial number on any bicycles, even if they are kept in the garage.
- Use lighting on your garage so any suspects are more likely to
be seen. - Ask your neighbors to call 911 on suspicious activity.
- Treat your garage door opener like a key to your house. Do not leave it visible on the visor. If you park your car in your driveway, keep the garage door opener safely hidden in the glovebox and lock your car doors.
- Pin any window which can be accessible from the ground (so it can't be opened more than 6 inches). Avoid keeping valuables within reach of windows as well so a suspect could not slit a window screen and reach inside.
Further tips and information here: Crime Prevention Resources (look under bicycle security information and home security information for further tips.) Become a block leader If you live on a block that does NOT have a block club but you're interested in learning more about being a block leader, contact Crime Prevention Specialist Chelsea Adams at Chelsea.adams@minneapolismn.gov. Being a block leader will let us sign you up to receive alerts about most crimes that occur on and just around your block-- all we ask is that you then forward this to your neighbors. It's as easy as that.

CIDNA Board Opposes 13-Story Apartment Project
At its April meeting, the CIDNA Board voted unanimously to oppose a 13-story apartment tower proposed by Bigos Management at 2622 W Lake St.

In the same resolution CIDNA also supported aesthetically designed, moderate-density development on the site that would respect the sensitive and complex context of the surrounding parks, lakes, Greenway, and residential properties. CIDNA's decision also reflects concerns about rezoning the site from OR2 to R6, granting exceptions to zoning height limits, and parking/traffic issues that were not addressed in the Bigos proposal. CIDNA encouraged Bigos Management to discuss other design options for the site. In 2006, CIDNA supported the Lander project with two towers, 86 and 70 feet high, stepping down to 2 stories on the Midtown Greenway. To become involved or to make comments please contact Bob Corrick at corrickcidna@gmail.com. See http://cidnalanduse.wordpress.com for background and the complete resolution, which describes CIDNA's rationale in detail.
