Massing Options Proposed for Bigos Apartment Project
The CIDNA Land Use and Development Committee has met with Bigos Development and its architect, UrbanWorks Architecture, to consider three general massing concepts for the Weisman site on West Lake Street and Thomas Avenue South (Map).
The size of the project ranges from 150 to 170 units totaling approximately 240,000 gross square feet. The three options proposed were: - 136-foot tower, the height of the existing Calhoun Beach
Club Apartments - 56-foot C-shaped building with the open end facing south toward Lake Calhoun
- 88-foot tower in an L-shape with the small part of the
L facing the Midtown Greenway.
Rough drawings of the options are presented at http://cidnalanduse.wordpress.com/.
The CIDNA Committee is requesting more information from the developer, and CIDNA will provide the opportunity for Bigos to formally present its proposal to the community and seek public feedback.
Please contact Bob Corrick, Chair, at corrickcdidna@gmail.com if you would like to participate, or if you would like to submit questions or comments. See the CIDNA website for future public meetings and developments.

Get Involved with Redistricting
Minneapolis residents can play an important role in redistricting. Every 10 years, following the US Census, voting districts are redrawn to reflect shifts in the population. This includes the ward and park board boundaries within the City of Minneapolis. The new voting boundaries will be used in the 2012 election and beyond.
The redistricting process is currently under way in Minneapolis and being led by a citizen advisory group appointed by the Minneapolis Charter Commission.
For more information, visit the City's Redistricting 2012 webpage.
Residents can email questions or ideas about maps or documents to the Redistricting Group at Redistricting2012@minneapolismn.gov.

No More Plastic Bags for Yard Waste!
As of the start of yard waste collection season this spring, Minneapolis Solid Waste & Recycling is banning the use of plastic bags to contain yard waste.
Leaves and other yard waste must be put in compostable bags, kraft paper bags or reusable containers (no larger than 33 gallons, with sturdy handles) eliminating the need for the City to debag yard waste before composting. This results in lower yard waste processing costs and a higher quality finished compost.
For more information, see www.minneapolismn.gov/solid-waste/yardwaste/index.htm.

Grants Available for Water-Friendly Landscaping
Help protect clean water as you beautify your yard. The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) is offering grants for projects that protect water resources in a variety of ways, whether or not you live on a lake or stream. Polluted stormwater runoff is the biggest water quality problem in Minnesota. The MCWD encourages practices that catch polluted stormwater before it enters sewers and will pay for up to half of the cost (maximum grant: $2,500) and help you plan what's best for you. - Eligible projects include raingardens, pervious pavers, and other projects that capture and filter stormwater.
Grants are available for improvements to private property including residential and business. For more information, contact Joe Barten, MCWD Cost Share Specialist, at 952-641-4523 or jbarten@minnehahacreek.org or visit http://minnehahacreek.org/CostShare.
