Sunset Boulevard Update

The CIDNA board passed three resolutions at the November 2011 board meeting asking the City, MPRB and MCES for reconstruction that addresses the criteria established at our community meetings.   Conversations are progressing at the City, public works, MPRB and MCES to meet that request.

The resolutions can be found in the 11/9/11 CIDNA Board meeting minutes posted on our website: www.cidna.org.

University of Minnesota Civil Engineering Capstone Student Project

At last May's CIDNA annual meeting, students from the University of Minnesota Civil Engineering Department presented their traffic assessment of the  Lake St & Excelsior Blvd intersection and its vicinity. The team also made short- and long-term recommendations on how traffic flow and pedestrian/bicycle safety might be improved in the area. Currently, two teams of students are further exploring the feasibility of the two major long-term recommendations:  1) Creating an underpass at the "Y" of the intersection, and 2) Building a pedestrian/bicycle bridge across Lake St, just east of Calhoun/Dean Pkwy. The students will present a summary of their preliminary designs and cost estimates at the December 14th CIDNA board meeting.
