Purpose & Goals

Purpose


Half day conference focusing on three audiences: LGBT elders, faith leaders and aging advocates to identify key issues facing LGBT seniors and to strategize improved services and outreach to them.

 

Goals

  • Providing encouragement to clergy and spiritual communities to become focused upon caring for the needs of LGBT Seniors.  Create a volunteer task force providing support in their congregation, much like what Lavender Seniors currently do.
  •  Providing a bridge for LGBT Senior advocates to spiritual / faith communities who they can partner with to improve their outreach/services
  • Provide support to LGBT seniors in the areas of community building and improving the health of mind, body, spirit
  • Provide a model for other communities to replicate our work in the Bay Area (state and national AARP)

Proposed Schedule for Conference:

12:00 - 1:15 pm Lunch with Key Note Address from Amber Hollibaugh,

1:30 - 2:30 pm Panel Discussion with LGBT Elders, moderated by Amber Hollibaugh

2:45 - 3:45 pm Panel Discussion with Clergy and Aging Advocates answers critical questions

4:00 - 4:45  pm Break Out Sessions (TBA)

5:00 - 5:30 pm Closing Session / Networking / Resource sharing from organizations

Committee Chairpersons:

a)    Program- Roland and Dan (w/help from Marcy and Tom) > responsible for locating speakers for panel and breakout sessions

b)    Fundraising - Roland (w/help from Tom and Dan) > responsible for gaining funds for conference

c)    Accessibility / Transportation - Nina > responsible for securing safe transit in/out of site

d)    Advertising / Promotion - Dan > responsible for inviting interested parties to conference

e)    Conference logistics - Wade > responsible for food, rooms, parking, hospitality, and signage
