Oasis asks you to attend one of these Important workshops next week
 | | The workshops will be presented by Fr. Michael Lapsley (shown here with Archbishop Desmond Tutu). Fr. Lapsley is an international hero in human rights movements, having been a chaplain to the ANC during the anti-apartheid struggles in South Africa. |
We need your help in bringing an important opportunity for healing and reconciliation to LGBT within our church and across the Bay Area.
First, we need to recruit a group of people who are willing to learn from an internationally recognized leader in healing and reconciliation.
Next we must make sure LGBT people join and participate in one of three introductory workshops next week during which this healing process will be discussed. These are not healing workshops, they are an introduction to the Healing of Memoirs ministry,
Finally, we need to work together to help heal both our church and LGBT people who have been wounded by a church, family or society.
We'll be learning from Fr. Michael Lapsley, SSM, a monk who served as chaplain to the ANC during the fight to end Apartheid in South Africa. Fr. Lapsley lost his hands, an eye and hearing in one ear to a letter bomb during that struggle. His response has been to start The Ministry of the Healing of Memories to bring healing and reconciliation to places like Bosnia.
Please attend one of these "Healing in the Diocesan Family" workshops:
- Thursday, November 18, 6 to 8 p.m. in the Church of the Epiphany, 1839 Arroyo Avenue, San Carlos
- Friday, November 19, 6 to 8 p.m. in the Church of Our Saviour, 1011 Harrison Street, Oakland
- Saturday, November 20, 9 to 11 a.m. the Church of Our Saviour, 10 Old Mill Street, Mill Valley
To stay in touch with this project please sign up for our Healing of Memories in LGBT Community e-mail list

Oasis Meets College Chaplains To Assess LGBTQ Student Needs
Oasis California is meeting with a series of college and university Episcopal and Lutheran chaplains to learn what LGBT students and their allies need on campus today. "We're hoping to meet with the campus chaplain along with LGBTQ students so we can listen to their need, hopes and suggestions," Oasis California President Rev. Thomas C. Jackson said. "Our goal is to find ways to help meet their needs." Chaplains at UC Berkeley, Stanford University, UC Davis, UC Chico and SFSU are among those invited to join in the discussion. "We're talking with chaplains who are in our diocese and the Sierra Pacific Synod of the ECLA to gain a representative idea of needs and opportunities," Jackson added.

World AIDS Day @ Grace On Dec. 1
How will you choose to spend World Aids Day this December first?
Will you join us and Bishop Marc Andrus for a service of remembrance and healing starting at 12:10 PM in the AIDS Chapel of Grace Cathedral?
Our worship begins at ten minutes after noon on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010. We'll spend our time together remembering those we have lost, healing those who remain and working to end this epidemic.
This service is offered By Grace Cathedral with the support of the Diocese of California's Multicultural Roundtable because HIV/AIDS isn't the problem of any single group. We're all in this together. For more info sign up to our World AIDS Day e-mail list.
