Gerard Joyal, 86, Wins Best Love Story

Concord, NH Widower Fulfills a Promise to His Beloved

Gerald Joyal and Daughter Marcia
Gerard Joyal and his daughter, Marcia Burley

Gerard Joyal, 86, a former U.S. Marine, fell in love with his childhood sweetheart, Beverly, in Franklin, New Hampshire.  During their marriage, Beverly and Gerard often visited Perkins Cove to walk the Marginal Way.

Beverly passed away while the couple was on a waiting list for a bench. More than 25 years later, when the Marginal Way Footbridge Plaques became available, Gerard was quick to make a donation in Beverly's name.  In his own words:

"I met Beverly when I was 12 and we married on April 12, 1947.  Perkins Cove was always our favorite place and we frequently talked about having a bench on the Marginal Way, but none was available.  We put our names on a wait list in the 1980's. Your call about the Honor Plaques has made it possible for me to fulfill a promise.  I loved Beverly and I had promised her that we would be together on the Marginal Way forever.  Now we will be."

CONGRATULATIONS, Gerard!  You have won the 2011 Best Love Story from the Marginal Way. Clay Hill Farm Restaurant sent you a gift certificate for two!

All donations for Honor Plaques boost the Endowment of the Marginal Way Preservation Fund. Your gifts create a perpetual source of funding to promote sustainable for our legendary footpath. Please consider donating today.

Greetings!

The Marginal Way Preservation Fund soon will install a web-based camera near the cupola of the lighthouse [see photo] to give the world an instant, round-the-clock view of Maine's favorite cliff walk!

The web camera is part of a Marginal Way Business Sponsorship Program to grow an Endowment Fund that will cover future preservation costs.

Business owners or individuals who donate $1,500 or more annually to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund will be issued passworded access to the video stream generated by the Marginal Way web camera.  A link to this camera on your business web page will certainly draw new visitors to your establishment!
