Ontario's Installed Solar Capacity Ranks Among Top In North America
Ontario's feed-in tariff program that began in 2008 is proving to be a
boon for the growth of the province's solar PV installations. According
to the U.S. Solar Market Trends 2009 report, recently released by the
Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), Ontario is on the move up
the ladder of installed power in North America. Although the report does not analyze markets outside the United States,
other than the Ontario market, it noted that in 2009, three Ontario
installations added a total of about 40 MW, and added, "If Ontario were a
U.S. state, it would have ranked third on IREC's list of states. At the end of 2009, the Ontario Power Authority had 486 MW under
contract, indicating that Ontario could well become the largest North
