YMCA of Sohomish County to host annual Healthy Kids' Day on April 16

Healthy Kids Day is the Y's national initiative to improve the health and well-being of families across the country. On April 16, Ys hold events and encourages parents to make play dates with their kids every day as a simple way to become a healthier, more active and connected family. The Y knows that many parents struggle to find the time and resources to incorporate physical activity and healthy habits into their kids' daily routine. As a leading nonprofit for healthy living, the Y created Healthy Kids Day to celebrate and teach good health for kids, encourage active play and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity.

As a business owner in the Mill Creek community, the Mill Creek branch of the Y is looking for support of our Healthy Kids Day in the following ways:

1.  Provide resources, if your business has a focus on kids, families, or health (and we have a broad definition of health) through an activity booth or information table at the event.

2. Provide volunteers for the event!  Last year, there were over 500 participants and more are expected this year, so they Y needs event volunteers to help direct cars, check in, run activity booths, help keep the Y clean, answer questions, etc.

3. Donations for give-aways for participants. They often like to do freebies for guests through drawings.

Mill Creek Festival Meeting

What motivates you?

I spent the weekend with friends at Seabrook. As usual I had my computer in tow because I had one thing left to do, and that was to write my message for this newsletter and send it off to all of you.

I was stuck and so I discussed my writers cramp with the group. What do I really need to relay to our members, they asked?

Well, what is on my mind right now is getting more folks involved in our festival, afterall "many hands make for a lighter load." This lead to a discussion about motivation and how much fun I have had over the years working on the festival, how satisfying it has been when I see all the visitors enjoying it and our members reaching out to their customers. And the frosting on the cake has been the good friendships I have made working shoulder to shoulder with folks who are creative, energetic and find purpose in giving back to the community.

So my good friend Nicola suggested that I embedded Dan Pink's video about motivation. As usual she had had another great idea. So here it is. Many of you may have seen this before, I had, but not recently. It was worth watching again.

Click on the image below, which will take you to You Tube to watch the video.

Granted, helping with the festival may not make the whole world a better place, but it certainly will make Mill Creek a nicer place to live.

Let our festival chair Kevin Giboney know if you want to help. Or stay after the lunch meeting for the festival meeting!

Yours,
Theresa
