Their practice is small but very personal and they would love to have MCBA members stop by and get acquainted with their unique style of practice.
Bill Raynolds - Bill's horticultural roots go all the way back to his four-square-foot garden in Ghana, West Africa. From age 5 to 9 he was fascinated with the way small seeds would erupt into towering plants. This connection to world flora continued during his prep school years at Haverford School when he worked in a Philadelphia nursery to help pay tuition.
Bill graduated from Grinnell College in 1979 with a BA in English. A 25-year career in Asian international banking culminated in an executive management position in a Russian bank in Moscow. Bill assisted in bringing credit products (credit cards, mortgages, commercial leases) to the Russian banking market for the first time in history.
After successfully launching credit in Russia, Bill returned to the US for a role as Chief Operating Officer at a New York based investment bank. Bill managed all operating aspects of the investment bank's operations until 2003 when he decided to embark on a cross-country bicycle adventure to raise funds for the Shackleton School. Somewhere part way across the plains of North Dakota Bill had an epiphany. While the work of international and investment banking had been exciting and financially fulfilling, something was missing. That something that was unfilled was his passion for plants and the nursery business. It was time to realize his dream of operating a garden center.
Rather than dive into this unknown industry and probably lose all his hard earned rubles, Bill decided to get some experience in the industry first. In 2004, Bill joined Molbak's, the premier nursery in Washington. Bill's first position at Molbak's was as a seasonal summer employee responsible for the most physically demanding, dirtiest, repetitive tasks at the nursery. Strangely enough, he loved it. Bill was retained as a full time employee and soon was promoted to Department Supervisor and then Department Manager for Garden and Indoor Plants. In Nov 2006, with this retail experience under his ever expanding belt, Bill succumbed to the entrepreneurial bug and launched My Garden Nursery.
My Garden Nursery recently won first place in "Evening Magazine's" BEST OF WESTERN WASHINGTON contest. In addition, My Garden was also named by
Garden Center Magazine to its 2011 list of the "Revolutionary 100 Top Nurseries in the US."
