| MISSION: Possible!
Very often PMI is called in to fix a project gone wrong, or to solve a particular issue in a unique space. Here are a few examples of spaces greatly improved through better technology and expertise.
I Want What He Has!
The owner of a recording studio in Santa Monica was not totally happy with the sound of his space. After visiting and hearing the results of PJ Hanke's music scoring studio, he contacted PMI to replicate those results in his studio. PMI engineered and outfitted the room with a combination of ZSound Pro and SõN acoustical treatments from MSR.

Diagnosis Acoustics PMI got a call from the Lawrence Livermore Labs in Northern California whose convertible conference room had so much echo they could not have conference calls. PMI diagnosed the space and specified a combination of MSR's SõN Acoustics and Salon Acoustics panels. This is a great example of a commercial application used to improve the sound comfort in a workspace.Home on the Range For a high-end private home cinema in Rancho Santa Fe, California (near San Diego), PMI engineered the space for an optimal dedicated private cinema application. The space was significantly improved with the installation of MSR's Symphony and Sonata components, which were custom tailored by PMI for the space.

Posh Pasadena In the exclusive San Marino area of Pasadena, California, PMI worked with integrator Audio High to convert a large room in a huge house into a private screening room. Located three levels below ground in a subterranean art gallery, the space is surrounded by reinforced concrete. PMI specified a large-scale Dimension4™ Concerto system to control reverb and eliminate bass resonances, thereby creating optimal acoustical performance.Woof Stock In Northern California, the Marin Humane Society came to PMI with the problem of 110 dB noise levels in the dog kennels. PMI specified and installed MSR's Quiet Kennel™ industrial sound-absorbing ceiling panels to control harsh and distracting sound reflections, making this a much more pleasant environment for animals and humans. Staff at MHS proclaimed "The animals are quieter because they don't hear each other barking as much, and the staff is happier, too!" Stunning Design for Premier Performance
In Las Vegas, Nevada, PMI partnered with installer AVAI to design a state-of-the-art screening room from the ground up, including layout and orientation of the room, sound isolation, and array of the sound and video systems.
A top-of-the-line Steinway Lyngdorf digital sound system was installed which, of course, deserves a very quiet room to showcase its full dynamic performance. Meticulous noise control was imperative to keep the ventilation equipment quiet in this house which is exposed to as high as 110 degree heat in the summer.
We worked with interior designers from Colours, Inc. in Las Vegas to create stunning and luxurious interior architecture that would conceal speakers, subwoofers, and acoustical treatments without affecting any of their premier performance. Even the equipment room is luxurious!

Uniquely, the full bar in this room was carefully designed into the acoustical characteristics of the space - the cabinetry contains proper acoustical properties and is completely rattle-proof. The client loves the theatrical performance and the profound quiet of the room which has become his favorite private retreat in the home.

PMI Engineers Film & Recording Studio in Mongolia
With abundant (though still largely untapped) natural resources of coal and copper, Mongolia is becoming one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. Luxury retail brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Burberry have opened in the capital city of Ulaan Baatar, as have the likes of Kempinski and Westin hotels, and luxury car brands like Mercedes.
Within this booming environment, PMI was hired to spearhead a brand new music and film recording studio. Our client works for a development company that builds luxury golf courses and ski resorts. An avid music fan, his primary aim was to build a world-class studio to attract the country's top-tier talent for recording. He also wanted to create a collaborative music community based around his comfortable facilities.
The project started in an empty wing of an old factory building, with the client's desire to create a multi-purpose center with a large live room, a smaller tracking room, large and small control rooms, drum room, guitar isolation room, vocal room, video editing suite, and a comfy lounge. Asking for much? Not at all! Click to read the full case study on our blog AVSpaces.
