Arrow Outreach News
August, 2010  -  Volume 2010-II
Greetings!

There is a lot happening within Arrow Outreach these days.  While we aren't sponsoring outreach trips to Ciudad Juarez again this year, due to the continuing violence, we are busy supporting the ministry there.

The Newsletter is taking on a new look.  What do you think?  This will be evolving over time.  Please send me feedback (roger.c.dennison@gmail.com) so that I know what you like and don't like and what I can do to improve it.
Fiesta Fundraiser a Success!

       Before Dinner 1              Before Dinner
Wow!  The Fiesta held at NorthPark Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 6th was fantastic!  Approximately 150 people attended, including participants from North Texas, East Texas and Mexico.   Our very special guests from Mexico were Pastors Felipe, Jesus and Luis along with members of their families.

The primary purpose of the event was to raise money to help sustain our ministry in Ciudad Juarez while we await the end of the violence there.  We collected $20,000 that evening with another $31,000 pledged over the next three years.  These funds will make a huge impact in the lives of so many people struggling to survive.

Pastor Phil Geleske took us through an excellent presentation that updated us on the many aspects of the ministry in Ciudad Juarez.  Pastor Luis spoke passionately about the value of the scholarship program in his community. Rich Mackey, president of Arrow Outreach, shared his insights with those gathered and encouraged all to continue to support the ministry with their prayers, action and donations.  Pastor Jesus offered the closing prayer.

We owe a big thank-you to the many people that were involved in making this event a great success, but mostly to you, the people that reached deep into the depths of your heart to provide funds necessary to sustain the ministry in Ciudad Juarez.

Scholarships Making a Difference

        Graduation 2           Graduation 1
The scholarship program administered by Arrow Outreach is arguably the most successful and the most impacting of all the ministries we do in Ciudad Juarez.  The student retention rate of children participating in this is very high, and people are moving into the area specifically because of the quality of the school (Socorro Rivera) and the scholarship program.  The program continues to grow due to the retention rate, students moving from the middle school level to the high school level, and new students graduating from 5th grade into middle school.  This new school year (2010-2011) will see an increase in number of students in excess of 25%, with a total funding need of close to $50,000.
A special edition of this newsletter will be coming out very soon and will be dedicated to scholarship program.  In the meantime, please be considering how you might increase your support of this ministry so that these children, so eager to learn, will have an opportunity to rise out of the cycle of poverty in which they find themselves.

God at Work in Ciudad Juarez

As we pass the 30th month of the extreme Drug Cartel violence in Ciudad Juarez numbers of questions confront us.  Including................

When will this end?   At the moment the answer is: "we don't know".  No quick fix seems to be on the horizon.

How do our partner pastors and their wives feel about the situation?  To a person they still believe that God has called them to be in Juarez and ministering to their churches and communities.  They trust fully in God as their provider and protector, recognizing the dangers around them and taking all reasonable and wise steps in how they conduct their travels and lives.   Their lives are in God's hands.

What is happening with the programs and ministries at the Centers, Churches and the Socorro School?  Our many Church-centered ministries are all functioning at a remarkable level in an environment of high security at each location.

·         Tocando Puertas is still operating their church, an education program for about 20 kids, a feeding program, clinic, youth sports, sewing and a new preschool program.

·        The Socorro school has 300 students attending and just graduated 36 students at the beginning of July.  The scholarship program continues to grow.

·        The new Redencion Church construction continues, albeit slowly.  Felipe is working with leadership team to establish program.

·        The Toribeo Family Center maintains a full slate of church youth and adult programs and services.  In addition their programs include tutoring, adult and child education, youth sports, educational scholarships, and a growing day care serving the community.

What can we do?  They ask that we pray for them and continue to support their ministries.

Keep our friends in Ciudad Juarez in your prayers.  Prayers and funding are the most important things we can be doing for them at this time.  Thank you for your support of this great ministry!
