This Gastown Restaurant (162 Water St.) has made its mark on the Vancouver dining scene since arriving in 2009. Located in a beamed-ceiling, brick walled heritage building this old fashioned saloon was inspired by the turn of the 20th century golden era of the cocktail. With a large selection of draft beer and a great cocktail list, this is the saloon bar to sit at to unwind after a long day.
On our last visit, my wife loved the campfire trout ($18). It came served in a tinfoil tent and when pulled apart, the steam rose out in a savory cloud of dill and caramelized onions. I really enjoyed the Pork and white beans ($16). They are thickly stewed with tomatoes with a crackling hunk of pork belly. The cold rice pudding ($7), warmed up with sticky figs and hot caramel, brought the meal to a delicious finish. It is a great place to simply sit at the bar with a drink or enjoy a meal in their dining area.
