Meet one of our new instructors

ALIE WALSH

Alie Walsh is one of our new studio teachers.  Let's take a minute to get to know her.  Alie Walsh

1.  When did you know you wated to do this for a career?   I think I always knew I wanted to sing and dance for the rest of my life.  When I was really young I always planned on being a pediatrician during the day and a being on Broadway at night!!  I guess I didn't offically decide to major in musical theatre until a couple of months into my senior year of high school.

2.  What are your goals for the future?  My goals for the future are really to be as open and optimistic about work after college as it presents itself to me.  I try to give school everything I have so I'll be as prepared for the real world as possible whether that means moving to NYC or traveling or teaching.

3.  What do you want your students to learn at the Studio of the Sooner Theatre this year?  I want my students to learn how to love performance and how to find growth as a person through performance.  I think by taking performance classes at an early age kids learn how to recognize their individual quarks and charms and can really embrace themselves for who they are.  I want every girl to leave class feeling beautiful talented and worthwhile and for every boy to feel confident enough to take on the world.

4.  What would you tell a young student who want to major in Musical theatre someday?  I would tell them that it is a hard life path but absolutely worth it.  You have to promise yourself you will never take yourself too seriously and that you will work and work and work and then work some more.

5.  Besides theatre what are your favorite things to do?  My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family.  They live an hour from Norman and my sister Jenny is the greatest in the world.  I love reading and movies and any chance I get I'm going to see live theatre.  My boyfriend and I also love taking his dog on walks around our amazing OU campus.
