We are incredibly delighted with the enthusiastic response to the formation of a LILITH SALON at BK. We have chosen a theme and articles from the latest edition of LILITH for our first meeting on Sunday evening March 4th at 7:00PM.
We'll be focusing on the section entitled, NAMING THE MATRIARCHY. It contains three short articles: MY HYPHEN, SO BABY SCHULTZ WHAT WILL YOU CALL ME? AND QUE(E)ING THE MATRIMONIAL PRINCIPLE.
We chose these articles because they each express a different perspective on names and Jewish women's identity. Here, as stated in the introduction to the section, "...three deciders seize the power of choosing, in big ways and small, bullish and inventive, multicultural and intellectual, norm-shattering and unapologetically subversive."
You don't have to agree! The articles will give us a starting point for what we expect will be an interesting discussion. Where this will lead is up to you!

Shalom,
Shoshana, Lauren, Magda
Shoshana Silberman, new member, Jewish educator and author, participated in a LILITH SALON in Princeton. She brought this idea to us thinking that a lively discussion group would be a perfect match for B'nai Keshet women.
Lauren Meyer, chair of adult education.
Magda Schaler-Haynes, who for many years read and discussed Lilith articles with her beloved mother Renee who recently passed away, joined in planning the Salon. We hope to attract a diverse multi-generational group of women.

All BK women are welcome to participate in the BK LILITH SALON!
However, we ask that everyone please RSVP. We may end up needing to find a different space to accommodate our rapidly growing numbers (a happy problem!). We will let you know if there is any change in venue.
Please bring a nosh to share! Snacks are pot luck.

QUESTION: What's LILITH and what do you mean by a "SALON?"
ANSWER: For the past thirty five years, LILITH magazine has been charting
Jewish women's lives with affection, subversion and style. LILITH features
award-winning investigative reports, new rituals and celebrations, first-person accounts, both contemporary and historical, as well as entertainment reviews, fiction and poetry, art and photography.
LILITH is an independent publication, made possible through the support of individuals and foundations, which gives its writers and editors the freedom to not only be rigorous in exploring controversial issues, but also able to present new ideas and interpretations.
