"I Believe Therefore I Am," The Life and Times of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik
Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 8:00pm - 9:00pm
The development of Modern/Centrist Orthodoxy
Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, known as "the Rav," was the recognized intellectual and spiritual guide of what became known as Modern or Centrist Orthodoxy. He ordained over 2000 Rabbis while serving as Rosh Yeshiva at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary at Yeshiva University. In this 4 session presentation we will look at the History and Development of Jewish Orthodoxy from the ideological disputes of the Hasidim and Mitnagdim (opponents), to the current spectrum of Orthodoxy in America and Israel. To large measure, we will be tracing The Rav's own personal history as his ancestors, extending back to the 18th century, were eminent Torah Scholars and leaders of Ashkenazic Jewry.
