Dig In. It's Spring!

Hi Again,
I love this time of the year. I get to go out and play in the dirt! Digging out weeds and planting flowers has a calming effect on me. It's my "quiet time". We all need to take an occasional time-out. What do you do for quiet time? Share it with me on my facebook page.
It's Mother's Day this month. Even though it's only once a year we really appreciate our moms all year long. Check out my tips for new moms.
Happy Mother's Day!

Do You Feel Like a Hamster?
stressed woman
Do you sometimes feel like a hamster?
You're running as fast as you can and at the end of the day you feel you haven't gotten anything done? If so, you're not alone. As women we habitually take on way too much. We take care of everyone and everything. Sometimes we need a time-out. Just like toddlers we can become overstimulated. Noise can activate the stress response. It can actually raise blood pressure. Multitasking may seem like a good idea. You can get so much more done. When overdone it means you're doing a lot of things but nothing well. We all need sleep. Sleep deprivation and chronic stress can literally make you sick. So slow down.Give yourself permission to take a break. Lock the bathroom door. Take a bath. Get a massage. Meet with friends. Turn off the TV and read a book or magazine. What is your go to time-out?

A Note to New Moms

baby homeCongratulations on your new baby. Your life will never be the same. The challenges will be different but so will the rewards. It's so exciting to have a new baby but it is also exhausting. If you're up feeding your baby every two hours you should be tired. It always amazes me how well new moms function on no sleep. Here are a few things you may want to try.
  • Give into fatigue. Let friends and family know you can use some help.
  • Take care of yourself nutritionally. If you're unsure of what you need call a nutritionist who specializes in pregnant and postpartum nutrition.
  • Don't put unrealistic expectations on yourself. It took nine months to make your baby. Give yourself nine months to get back into shape and back on track.

Remember you've done an amazing thing: bringing a new baby into the world!
