Sore Muscles & Sniffy Noses
You didn't really think we'd escape winter did you? Wishful thinking! But the good news is that even though February is cold, it is short. Did you ever notice that your muscles feel tighter when it's cold? Muscles are happiest when they are warm and stretched. When it's cold we tend to huddle. Our heads are buried in our shoulders. Our chin is down. Our hands are jammed into our pockets. We become the smallest, tightest ball we can become. Our muscles are so so contracted. No wonder we feel pain in our neck and shoulders. Bundle up. Walk tall. Take yoga. Stretch. Get a massage. A hot stone massage is especially nice this time of year. You also want your immune system to be strong so you can fight off any nasty germs that come your way. If you take the subway or have small children germs are unavoidable. You want to protect yourself and keep your immune system strong. Here are some suggestions. Diet: A few adjustments can make a big difference. Make sure you get plenty of Omega 3 fatty acids. This is not only good for your immune system, it is also good for your brain. Omega 3 is found in fish like salmon and also in nuts. Adding Vitamin K is also beneficial.Get your vitamin K by eating leafy greens such as spinach and kale And last but not least, increase your Vitamin C intake. Exercise: This is a great way to keep your immune system strong and have more energy. Take brisk walks when the weather is nice. If it's yukky outside your your workout indoors. Yoga is good and if you want something more invigorating try a Zumba class. That will warm you up! Massage: Massage keeps the circulation system and the lymph system healthy. A study at Cedar Sinai Dept of Psychology & Behavioral Neuroscience reported that people who received regular massages had measurable changes in their immune response. To get the greatest benefit from your massage be consistent. A massage once a month is recommended. Click here to find your perfect massage this month!
