Tips for Having a Healthy Holiday
Can you believe it's almost the end of the year? Time goes by so fast it makes my head spin. The weather has been so warm it's easy to be lulled into a false sense of time. The reality is that it is December and the holidays are upon us. Don't panic. I have tips to make this the magical season it's supposed to be.
- Stay Healthy! It's hard to enjoy yourself if you're not feeling well. Keep your immune system strong. Take extra vitamin C, drink plenty of water and remember to get some rest.
- Know when to say NO. Overextending yourself is stressful and unnecessary. Learn to say no to some commitments. If you have taken on too much, delegate. People are really willing to help as long as they have some direction. No one does it as well as you but...
- Make lists and use them.Santa has lists and so should you. They will keep you organized and can be a real time savers. Plus it feels so good to cross things off!
- Eat before you party. That way you won't be starving and tempted to eat every naughty thing in sight. Fill up on healthy appetizers so you won't have room for the bad stuff.
- Drink plenty of water. It will keep you hydrated. You'll want to eat less. And it will balance out the alcohol if you're having a cocktail or two. One glass of water for every glass of alcohol will keep you clear headed.
- Don't forget to exercise. It curbs your appetite to move a little. Dancing is great and so is walking. If you're too busy to go to yoga or the gym everyday, go less often but GO!
- Plan time together with special friends. You've been meaning to get together all year. Do it now. Being in the company of good friends is priceless.
- Start a tradition. It can be your special thing or something you do as a family. Make it meaningful.
- Laugh! Laughter is really healthy. Learn to laugh at yourself. Life shouldn't be so serious.
- Enjoy! The holidays are about friends and family. The rest is just - the rest. Nothing is perfect or exactly as we might imagine. But it's probably pretty wonderful anyway.
