Massage & The Marathon
Marathon Sunday was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the air was crisp. Although I no longer run and haven't for years I still get a thrill watching even a part of the race. This year there was a female runner who was way ahead of the pack for 23 miles. No one was even close. Behind her at quite a distance were a group of 3 women. Slowly they gained on her and at mile 23 one of the women over took her. There were only 3 miles to go.
Then another from the pack inched in front of her. The race ended and the runner who was so far ahead for 23 miles came in 3rd. I wondered if there wasn't a message in all of this. I think the marathon can be a metaphor for life. We all participate in marathons. Think about it. If you are working and a project is due you're most likely working marathon hours. If you're in school and have a term paper in front of you you're doing marathon time. I always tell my pregnant clients that giving birth is like running a marathon. If you're juggling work and family every day can feel like a marathon. So, how do we stay in the race without burning out and coming in 3rd? Support helps. You need to have people who can support and encourage you. These can be gal pals, family or friends. You also need to be committed to the task and trust that you can do it. Being prepared is essential. And remember, if you do come in 3rd there's always another marathon. So where's the massage in all of this? Marathon runners get massages to work out the kinks in their muscles. They get massages during training and after the race is completed. Massage helps with the marathon of life too. Get a massage to relax and center yourself. Take a massage break to work out the computer kinks. And be sure to get a massage when you cross your finish line. It's a wonderful reward.
No matter what your marathon is, massage should be part of the program.
Laura Thanksgiving I just want to wish you all a wonderful holiday. Thank you for continuing to see me for massage and nutrition and baby classes. And thank you for referring your friends and family. I love what I do but I couldn't do it without you. Thanks! |
