THE VOICE
Aliya Perry Creator of The Industry Voice
"If you believe that you achieved a huge step in your career, then you did! Don't let anyone tell you different. Celebrate your achievement today! "-The VoiceTo Contact: theindustryvoice@gmail.com Youtube.com/aliyajustlivemyspace.com/theindustryvoiceOriginally a NY native, I relocated to Los Angeles, CA in 2008 after being signed with BLOC talent agency. I strive to take risks and be more then just another choreographer, actor or dancer. I want to be different. I want to be ME! All you have in life is this moment. This second. This NOW. So why waste it playing it safe. I encourage every dancer, actor or choreographer to embrace their inner artist and JUST LIVE. When you LIVE completely in the NOW it is an amazing experience. My resume includes Producing a Haiti Benfit @ Blvd3 nightclub in Hollywood, Choreographing/dancing for international pop star Armenchik @ the Nokia Theater Oct 2009, NYC Fashion Week, performing off Broadway, actor for THE LITTLE THEATER , Freestyle for The Frontline Fashion Show in NYC (Brian Friedman Line), Competition and Award Winning Choreography for numerous groups and studios. I have also received many awards & honors from several conventions and competitions. |

Congratulations To POREOTIX AKA POREONTICS On Winning ABDC
On April 8th, 2010
Matt "Dumbo" Nguyen, Charles Nguyen, Can Truong Nguyen, Lawrence "Law" Devera, Justin "Jet Li" Valles and Andrew-Chad Mayate were crowned champions on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew Season 5."Hearing we won was probably the most intense and amazing experience of
my life. The moment Mario called our name out, I couldn't really think
and my heart was filled with so much joy and relief. Competing
on the show was not easy. We were a crew that had our own
style and practiced in Dumbo's living room, the size of our ABDC garage.
The transition was tough. We had to adapt to the challenges, deal with
endless rehearsal hours, early daily call times and especially getting
slack from the judges. JC gave us the hardest time, but it
actually helped, because it sparked an idea to make T-shirts out on the whole "tic tic tic" business. As
of now, Poreotix is doing shows around the US with the World of Dance
Tour, where we just came back from Dallas and will be heading to New York during the end
of May. We also have future shows in Hawaii, Canada, San Diego, San Jose, San
Francisco and various other shows up and down California and we plan
to compete at the upcoming 2010 World Hip Hop International again, where
we took the US title last year. We hope everyone keeps up with
us and follows the legacy we left behind on ABDC season 5 through our
website Poreotix.com where we also sell our Poreotix T-shirts!"thanks!

SPREAD YOUR VOICE
"I have wins every day! I wake up every day knowing that I get to
do what I love and inspire people for a living. :) A huge win
for me currently is the planning and creative process for the HUGE
cancer benefit that I produce every year called Art4life! I lost my dad
to cancer in 2005, so it is a cause that really resonates with me. It
is a show, in which we have music, dance, poetry and all forms of art.
We do a red carpet (yes... celebs DO come!), silent auction, gift bags,
etc. Each year we have raised close to ten thousand dollars for the
American Cancer Society! But more importantly, I believe that it has
help to inspire so may young artists in our community to become
proactive in making a change! It is my belief, that God (the
universe, mother earth... whatever you believe in. :)) gives us the
gifts of artistic expression for the sole purpose of using them to make
the world a better, brighter place! This event is by no means, is a one
woman show... Sure, I put the plan into motion, but it is a community of
talented, generous, and selfless people that have kept this ship afloat
for what will be 4 years! Get your tickets now!

"Having the opportunity to work with
Toni on "Make My Heart" was AMAZING! Not only was I one
of her featured dancers in the video, but i also got to bring along my
crew, The Waackers, and share the experience with them as well. I got a
call from Rosero, who was her choreographer, and his assistant Claude,
asking me if The Waackers would be interested in being featured in the
video. He is such of a fan of us, that he thought we would fit exactly
into what the video was all about. OF COURSE we said YES, and their we
were KILLIN IT WITH TONI! We got to share the spotlight with crews like
Fanny Pack and Strikers All-Stars and Toni's featured dancers were THE
BOMB! We wanna thank Rosero McCoy and Claude Racine for letting us live
in the experience and for appreciating our craft and hard work. They
just knew it was wouldn't be complete without myself and The WAACKERS.

SPOTLIGHT
Darrin Henson And The Jennifer Lopez TourOnce I heard that Darrin Henson was choreographing for his friend Jennifer Lopez, for the upcoming World Music Awards on May 18th, 2010, I knew I needed
to hit Darrin up for an interview. I danced for Darrin back in New York a
few years ago and I can honestly say he is one of the most talented, humble and gifted people I know. His drive and passion is truly inspirational and he NEVER
gives up.
He understands that in this industry, you HAVE TO BE A FIGHTER TO SURVIVE!
Most of you know Darrin Henson from his DVD sensation: "Darrin's Dance Grooves", in 2000, but Darrin has come a long way since the bubble gum world of Britney Spears and Nsync. He decided to pursue his passion for acting and has appeared in numerous lead roles in television and the big screen, including the Blockbuster smash "Stomp the Yard", where he was able to showcase
his two best attribute, dance & acting. He played five seasons as Lem Van Adams on the hit Showtime series "Soul Food", starred in the HBO film "Life Support" starring Queen Latifah and much more.On May 2nd, 2010 Darrin was sweet enough to catch up with The Industry Voice and provided the scoop on his upcoming projects. 1. Are you excited to work with Jennifer Lopez again? "I love working with Jen! She is like clay, you can mold and shape her
and she will
transform. I am very excited to work with her on her new album.
2. What are some of the projects you have done with Jen in the past?"I choreographed and directed
her American Music Awards show" Paris Love Don't Costa Thing" which you can see on my Facebook page. I also choreographed the video "Love Don't Cost A Thing and the MTV Music Awards in Sweden "Airplane"."CHECK OUT DARRIN'S AMA CHOREOGRAPHY TO LOVE DON'T COST A THING ON YOUTUBE 3. What have you been up to since STOMP THE YARD?
"I have
filmed 6 other films. I also play a character named Raven in Takken, the largest video game in the world..check it out on www.darrinhenson.com." 4. What are your future plans for 2010?"I will build the Ddh

GET TO KNOW.....
Kimberly Cole Singer/Songwriter
Who is Kimberly Cole? She is a perfectionist, a visionary, a fashionista, a singer, a songwriter, a competitive roller skater, a free spirit. Who is Kimberly Cole? She is a superstar. The CA native has opened for Katy Perry, LMFAO and Shiny Toy Guns, was featured in 2009 on the FAME soundtrack, performed at the Playboy Mansion for the big Hugh Hefner, followed after Jay Z at Coachella, the new millennium Woodstock, gained Perez Hilton's positive attention with her new hit song "Smack You", starred in ITUNES "What's Hot" and "New & Noteworthy", has Grammy Nominated Producer, Jeeve, on her team, sold out the Avalon nightclub with over 3000 fans at her ITUNES release party and has gained over 1.3 million fans on the web. Through all these accomplishments, can you believe this girl isn't even signed to a major label yet? That just proves to never judge a book by it's cover. Kimberly Cole is determined, driven, continues to gain respect from her peers and is moving through the industry much faster then any up and coming "signed" recording artist and she is doing it all on her terms.
LISTEN NOW TO KIMBERLY COLE'S HIT "SMACK YOU" ON YOUTUBE
WATCH TRICIA AND KIMBERLY COLE COLLABERATE FOR AMAZING CARNIVAL PERFORMANCE
GO BACK STAGE WITH KIMBERLY COLE @ HER RELEASE PARTY AT AVAOLON
On April 30th, 2010 I met up with Kimberly Cole and her choreographer/ image consultant, the fabulous Tricia Miranda at Jeeve's recording studio in Hollywood, CA. These two are artistic soul mates and within one year they have become a true power couple. They trust each other completely, combine their creative genius for jaw dropping performances, have helped each other reach their full potential and have created a second family, rather then a cold, manipulative, fake business relationship. They were destined to meet in April 2009 and this is only the beginning.
1. How was performing at Coachella
for the first time? Kimberly:
"It was crazy! I have never been to Coachella before. We drove 2 hours to get
there, it took 40 minutes just to get down the street, had sound checked at 12am,
and we performed around 3:30am at Coachella Oasis, following Jay Z. We killed it
and they loved it. The energy was
insane. There were a ton of celebs and everybody became a hippie that weekend. It's like a new age Woodstock"
2. Are you signed yet? Kimberly: "There
are a lot of labels that are definitely interested, but I'm loving being
independent
right now. I have such an amazing
team and we are doing more then a lot of signed artists. I have
the
William Morris agent, Penn Music Group, my publisher is pitching songs
to
television and film, Amanda Cee, my manager is amazing, I have Tricia (Miranda), I have
an great
studio where I can come work with Jeeve (Grammy nominated producer who works with Santana, Tupac, Bruno Mars and more) and
I have
a development deal with Myspace Records, where I have access to
promotional
offers. I'm so freakin lucky! Everything WE own right now and we are
doing things our way.
I would love to be signed with a major label in the future, but right
now we
are just holding out until we get the best deal possible and when it
does
happen it will be organic."
3. You and Tricia seem to be a power couple together, how did this relationship come to be?
Kimberly:
"I always talk about this, but Tricia changed my life! A year ago, (April 2009)
my music was in a great place, but I just wasn't finding my match. We contacted
CLEAR talent and received every famous choreographer you could possibly imagine
and we went through several video submissions and the second I watched Tricia's
stuff, I was obsessed and I knew she was the one. When we met and it was like we knew each other for years. I feel like I'm telling our EHarmony story. Haha. I will
do anything for Tricia and I trust her completely as my image consultant,
creative director and choreographer. She helped me discover who I am as an
artist and bring the real me to the surface."
Tricia Miranda: "It doesn't feel like working to me, everyday we go
to the studio, I am excited about it and when I'm gone on other jobs I am
creatively thinking about what I can do with her and I am inspired and excited
to get back into the studio. The main ingredient into getting stuff done
QUICKLY is when you have positive energy, a fun environment and when your whole
team loves what your doing. Anytime
she travels, we take the main four dancers: Jae Fusz, Sohey Sugihara and The Power
Ninjas/ Twins:
Mimi Saruwatari and Maki Saruwatari. Sohey is actually my assistant
choreographer and Kimmy's stand in when she want to visualize a performance. Haha. I don't think I can honestly say I have ever been
on a job where everyone gets along, likes the artist, likes the choreography
and likes the choreographer. I put everything into this girl, because it's fun and we
are all excited about this project."
Kimberly: "And it shows! Kimmy before Tricia, Kimmy after Tricia. It's almost like she
gave me the green light to be who I am. She gave me my swagger. I am not scared
anymore. She's allowed me to be who I am and I feel like I am in my own
element. I want people to know
that she is that inspiration behind everything. She is my twin. Haha.
Everything we have put together so
far has been flawless, seamless and we are attacking all our goals unbelievably
quickly. She's always thinking about where I will go in the future and how I will evolve
as an artist."
4. What are your plans for 2010? Kimberly: "We have a lot of things coming up. We are shooting the music video for my hit song
"Smack
You" with Brian Thompson, planning a summer tour in Vegas, New York,
California
and hopefully over seas and working on several commercial campaigns."
5. Where can fans find Kimberly
Cole? http://www.facebook.com/kimberlycolemusic http://www.myspace.com/kimberlycole
They can also purchase
numerous songs on ITUNES.

Carnival @ Avalon Hollywood, CA
Carnival on April 27th, 2010 had several interesting twists. It was a themed choreographers ball, where numerous artists expressed their Burlesque side, it fell on a TUESDAY, which is extremely rare and it contained a pre-show, where C.R.E.A.M. aka Kenya Clay & Spark Williams, showed the audience how to save the earth with a contemporary/hip hop routine. The night was for sure different and normally I would offer you a Top 5, but since the April show was unique, I decided to supply "Specialty Awards" instead.
The Super Human Strength Award goes to: Elena Savko & Vladimir Sizov These two were incredible and exampled the power of a strong core. The female continually balanced on the gentleman in crazy positions and never rocked once.
The Sexy Award goes to: United Pole Artists The trio proved that pole dancing is an ART that should always be respected. It was tasteful, artistic and sensual all in one. They consistently balanced on the pole with simply the strength of their inner thighs and would hang off effortlessly. AMAZING!
The Diva Award goes to: John Corella feat. Shangela & Rhea Featured in Rupaul's Drag Race These drag queens worked the stage man and transformed the club for a split second into a full on party. I was ready for "It's Raining Men" to break out. Haha.
The Best Character Award goes to: Shirlene Quigley Who better then Shirlene to come up with fierce crew of female characters? There was the naughty maid, the sexy belly dancers and the fierce dominatrix, which was led by Ava Bernstein. I found the use of characters very artistic and entertaining.
The May Carnival on May 26th, 2010 has an amazing line up including PHLEX, Andye J, Tessandra Chavez, Dejan Tubic, Tony Czar and more. Carnival always needs the dance communities support to keep this tradition going strong.

April Highlights
Coachella is a 3 day event held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, CA. Millions of people gather in the hot desert with tents, beers, friends and even celebrity neighbors to enjoy a sleepless weekend of non stop music and arts. In 1993, Pearl Jam boycotted Ticketmaster and manifested a new age Woodstock with a turn out of 25, 000 fans. This began the craze to promote rock concerts again in the desert and 6 years later the first Coachella took place in 1999. Now the new Millennium Woodstock has become a craze and headliners like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine have entertained over 50, 000 fans each year. The April 2010 Coachella attracted at least 75,000 fans and headliners included: Jay-Z, Kimberly Cole (ARTISTS TO GET TO KNOW), Thom Yorke of Radiohead and his live band Atoms for Peace, David Guetta, Will.I.Am and more. The festival overdoses participants with music and treats spectators with numerous eye candy with interactive art and sculptures through out the camp.
World Of Dance
April 10th, 2010 Pomona, CA
The World of Dance Tour is the most industry savvy competitions around. This is not Starpower people, this is the real deal and all high profile urban dancers compete for the prize. Celebrity talents like The Jabbawockeez, Tessandra Chavez, Poreotix, Beat Freaks, and more have all participated in the tour through out the years. Noel Bajandas, a celebrity judge, expressed the competition on April 10th, 2010 and mentioned it was exciting and a pleasure to be a part of.
"Lady in Lace" @ The Highlands April 2nd, 2010 Hollywood, CA Presented By Jack Rabbit Frost aka Carey YasisCarey Yasis & Paulette Azizian stepped up their game on April 2nd, 2010 with their "Lady In Lace" group.
