Annual General Meeting on April 6
Thank you Friends for your support and please keep up the good work!
Fund raising for off leash dog park well underway
Memberships for 2011 available

Greetings!

In just a few weeks, we'll hear the Red-winged Blackbirds--those wonderful harbingers of early spring. I am hoping that later, by the time the Osprey return, we will have raised at least half of our fundraising goal of $9,000 to establish an off-leash dog park in Ken Reid Conservation Area.

The collective efforts of the Friends' board to reinvigorate this organization is currently inspired by our canine friends. Hopefully, local students will be inspired, too, and help us name the park in a competition currently running in local schools.

We have other ideas cooking, though we need more people to get involved. I invite to you to attend our Annual General Meeting on April 6. Please join the Friends, or renew your membership, and help us in conservation efforts that we hope can continue to grow throughout the watershed.

In the meantime, please watch out for our "Pennies for Puppies, Dollars for Dogs" donation tins, and thank you very much to all of the people and local businesses who are helping us with this effort.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Cooper

President

Everyone is welcome to attend.

We will be electing board members and discussing activities for 2011, including the creation of an off leash dog park in Ken Reid Conservation Area.

We invite you to come out to learn more about the park and how you can get involved.

Thank you Friends for your support and please keep up the good work!

As the "old man" on the Friends Executive, I would like to thank all of you for your financial support and involvement in Friends' activities over the years.

Our organization is very important to the conservation authority and in our community. We have raised funds to support conservation areas, including the boardwalk, and the playground and change house down at the beach in Ken Reid Conservation Area.

We are able to apply for grants that are not directly available to conservation authorities, such as the two major grants that helped fund the Blue Canoe and shoreline restoration projects on Lake Scugog.

Friends are also involved with educational projects, and have had many speakers who have taught us many facts about conservation and the environment.

Personally, I have met many people who have become great friends.

I ask you to renew your membership in order that we can keep up the good work.

Thank you,

Bob Pool
Director

Since the December launch of the proposed off leash dog park in Ken Reid Conservation Area, we have raised over $1,500. We are well on our way to reaching our $9,000 goal by summer.

Thank you very much for your contributions, with a special thanks to the John Howard Society of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton for the significant funds they have raised. As always, your membership fee supports all of the activities of Friends, including the dog park.

For more information about the park, please visit our

website. You can also view a CHEX TV video of the launch. We will be providing more information during our Annual General Meeting on April 6 (see above) and encourage you to come out to learn more.

Off leash dog park

A Name the Park competition is underway among grades 4 to 8 in all schools within the City of Kawartha Lakes. The winner will receive $50, and the name will be announced at our AGM.

If you would like to support the off leash park, donations can be made online or by cheque at the Kawartha Conservation Administrative Centre in Ken Reid Conservation Area, where memberships can also be obtained. Charitable tax receipts will be issued for all donations and memberships.

Anyone interested in getting involved is encouraged to attend our AGM or contact Kawartha Conservation at 705.328.2271 ext. 220 or communications@kawarthaconservation.com.
